The Hoax Aint no hoax,

These guys are the real deal. To me it sounds like a jam band with srv as a lead guitar player. However it may be derivitive in its sound but does not sound like srv clone or knockoff. The Hoax has their own unique sound.Plenty of solos with the dual guitar attack. An innovative approach to blues rock and highly recommended.

PHENOMENAL BLUES/ROCK GUITAR DISC,
This review is from: Live Forever (Audio CD)
Outstanding live blues/rock guitar disc from this awesome British band featuring two killer guitarists who sound like they grew up in the heart of Texas. These guys are the REAL deal. If you love top-shelf blues/rock guitar music, you owe it to yourself to tune into this great band/disc.

This is a BLISTERING SET by The Hoax. Influinced by SRV (but not a copy) these young British musicians know how to rock the house. Non-stop jamming by dual guitarists makes me long for more. Too bad they are no longer together, they must have been a sight to see. Great job lads, wish you were still around.

Pretty darn good British live blues album.,

Some people prefer their bands to record studio albums, whilst others like a live feel. This album is a pretty good live album although the sound quality does suffer a little. However the music itself is pretty good with good guitar, and vocal work in particular. Those familiar with Stevie Ray will be able to play spot the Stevie Ray song, but hey haven't lots of the greatest blues musicians used each others song for influence, or covered them themeselves. All in all a rollicking good album.

...but I'll try anyway. This CD absolutely blew me away when I accidentally came across it years ago on The Net. Simply the greatest live blues/rock album I have ever heard, & I say that without any hesitation whatsoever. Jesse Davey & Jon Amor create a powerhouse combo on guitars, while Hugh Coltman is one of the most distinctive vocalists around, with a voice that exudes a bluesy swagger. True, the band owes a clear debt of gratitude to Stevie Ray Vaughan, but they go way beyond being mere "wannabes". Eight of the ten tracks are originals, & in addition to Coltman putting his unique stamp on vocals, he also adds some great harmonica. If electric blues is your thing, do not pass this one up! Worth every bit of five stars!!

I bought this thinking it was the Hoax's new live album released since Manholepedroza left the band. Unfortunately this is the other Hoax that usesthe same name. The Hoax from Texas was the original and far superior.
