A great listen, never gets boring, January 24, 2000
This review is from: Live at Future Primitive Sound 2 (Audio CD)
I didn't like this the first time around, but after the second listen, I started enjoying it immensly. Maybe I was expecting something like the first offering, where Cut Chemist and Shortkut do some really progressive, crate digging, instructional-record sampling, turntable action. But then this reviewer realized that THAT wasn't their goal, and to compare the first volume to this one would be totally unfair. What Dj Z-Trip and Radar manages to do is to create more of "party" album; though not as experimental as their predeccesors, it is a lot more fun and they show off their skratching skills none-the-less. In this musical gumbo they throw in Afrika Bambaattaa ( "Planet Rock" being a b-boy favorite ), Beastie Boys, Run DMC, LL Cool J ( before he became wack ) Busta Rhymes, Black Sheep, Dj Kool ( everytime I hear "clear my throat" I want to do the Ed Lover dance for some reason ) and Roger & Zapp ( you can never, ever, EVER, go wrong with More Bounce to the Ounce. Never ). All in all, these BombShelter DJs give you reason to take cover from their ensuing sonic assault.

whos that funky dj????, March 1, 2001
This review is from: Live at Future Primitive Sound 2 (Audio CD)
i was highly disappointed with the reviews of this cd... this disc blew me away! radar and z trip handle the tables gracefully with a raw energy that seems to drip not only from the skratches, fades and fills they add to each track, but even from their diverse selection of samples taken throughout modern music. rarely will you find such choices put together so smoothly. floyd, rakim, BEASTIE BOYS!!, run dmc, aerosmith, ll cool j, black sabbath, the list goes on. these boys found a way to incorporate the best of two experimental and competing worlds (that of the dj and the turntablist). they brought together tight chops and skratches with smooth crossovers of insightful and memorable samples. the old skool hip hop uses were to be expected, (and following shortkut and cut chemist in a series would be hard enuff!) but to incorporate and morph the emotions that came with such older, well known rock anthems together with the old skool hip hop was a feat worthy of higher praise than has been given here so far. i felt i had to put in my two cents. so, if you dont have this disc yet, go get it and believe me, you wont stop listening to it for at least three weeks... enjoy! back to the back to the beats y'all down with the sounds so sweet y'all -chewie

It Would be a F--king Crime to Not Own This Album, August 9, 2004
This review is from: Live at Future Primitive Sound 2 (Audio CD)
A friend of mine (Kyle Bradley you're a Bad Mother F--ker like Samuel Jackson's wallet) burned a live show of DJ Z-Trip performing in Los Angeles. I played it and it blew my brains out onto a wall. Whenever I play the CD for anyone, they always want a copy for themselves. The same goes for this album. Separately, Z-Trip and Radar are both mega-talents in the hip-hop field, but they're two very distinctively, different DJ's. If you check the album out, you'll notice that Z-Trip is the orchestrator who digs in those crates and finds the obscure party breaks, melding your favorites, mixing 70's & 80's rock, old & new school rap, r&b, and even heavy metal instrumentals (Uneasy Listening-"A must have mixtape", Rolling Stone). Radar, on the other slip mats, assassinates the wax, literally leaving the records in pain after cutting their vinyl throats. This album is exactly what any hip-hop, or rock head needs for a good party. Throw this in with the prior installment of Future Primitive Vol. 1 and you'll have friends buzzing off the music more than the drinks. Check out Volume 3 in the future (no pun intended) with Cut Chemist and Z-Trip on the same album...or so it has been rumored.
