David Gilmour's mature music,

This review is from: Live in Gdansk (5-Disc Limited Edition) (3CD + 2 DVD Set) (Audio CD)
I've been a Floyd fan for years and I have all records and most videos and books. What I felt wonderful about the Floyd when I was 12, was the expression of Gilmour's guitars. Later, I digested the lyrics and the concept of each record as a whole. David Gilmour's music is today as mature as a good wine stored in a cellar and you decide to open it. It's big, round, silky, full and lasting. DVD's are just great and the CD's collect excellent versions of the tour highlights. It's incredible that almost the same material is present in the David Gilmour Live at the Royal Albert Hall, and they sound and look different. It's good to have them both.

The perfect pack for fans...,

The set has lots of useless stuff, like guitar picks, tickets etc... They may seem useless for those whom are not a devoted fan. But, for those who are, this pack reflects exactly David's musical personality: Total attention on details. There is an sealed envelope, with all the fan stuff inside, like it was suppose to be some kind of gift from the band to the fans who weren't able to be at the show. Buttons, credentials, tickets, photos, a guitar pick... It's awesome.
The DVD and CDs quality are impeccable, so, I don't have to tell anything about it. It's just perfect.

This set is a real must for any Pink Floyd collector - definately worth getting the extra CD (over the four disc set, which I already had) and the extras in the pack (I won't spoil it by telling you what they are) are to die for. If you're in Europe, import this from the States and save yourself £100+ (make sure it's in a DVD region you can play!)

David Gilmour's voice only gets better with age. I got the five disk set and was blown away. This set is phenomenal there are so many extras, with the setting in Gdansk and some of the last footage containing Richard's magic, this is a must have for any Floyd fan. The Live in Gdansk album propels Gilmour to a new level in music which is beyond the imagination. David Gilmour's new music is the best I have ever allowed my ears to enjoy. Thank you David.

Just bought the box set, and went straight to the DVD (#3)exactly not knowing what to expect.
I have been a Floyd fan since '75, seeing them live numerous times. I always had the greatest admiration for Mr.Gilmour has a song writer, but more as a musician and a guitar player. No one can make a single note sound like he does on a guitar. My appreciation watching the DVD grew even more than I thought it would or could, watching this great guitarist work his way thru new and timeless material. I never had the pleasure of see Echoes performed live, outside having the "Live at Pompeii" dvd, and watching this masterpiece of a song being played live, I was blown away by the power of David's guitar solos and it's soulful notes playing along with Richard's piano notes at the intro and end of the song. Simply and truly fantastic. A real must have for Floyd fans all over the world. Can t wait to dig into the other DVD and CD's!!

When one looks at the era from which Pink Floyd sprang, my era musically, it's hard to define the niche occupied by this seminal group. They were above all, a live group, with monster PA systems and on stage special effects that even today's producers are hard pressed to duplicate let alone equal. They were a show band, always socially aware, due in part to the lyrics of Roger Waters (not part of this album) but also musically innovative in ways that are subtle and not always recognized by critics of this newest generation. Their finest album, (arguably, Gilmour thinks so) "Dark Side of the Moon" became the largest selling album of all time until eclipsed by Michael Jackson's "Thriller". I suspect and hope that as time goes by, "Dark Side" will reclaim it's number one status. It was and is a bit of work that appeals to every music lover who comes to that age where peer pressure gives way to personal taste and discrimination.
This album will stand along side of "Dark Side" like a book end; a career statement. Gilmour, Wright, and Mason with friends Dick Parry and others have set the capstone on the work of this group. Wright is now, sadly, gone too. Following Syd Barret by a couple of years. Roger is off doing his thing. Too bad he didn't have just a touch of Richard's personality. There's no telling where this extraordinary ensemble might have gone. Still my favorite group from my youth, and this album, is a must for Pink Floyd, David Gilmour, Richard Wright, Nick Mason fans. A must have album for any music lover. Get it! You won't be disappointed

I waited a few months for Amazon to finally tell me the product was no longer available. I did not want to settle for the US version so I ordered this from Mirmedia, through Amazon's web site, and received it in about a week. Definitely worth the wait! The sights and sounds are nothing less than spectacular. It is all the more moving with the backdrop being a setting with so much history and meaning. David Gilmour is a master that continues to develop what will be an amazing legacy.
