4.0 out of 5 stars great live performance October 7, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
live in germany '71 is an excellent sound recording. the vocals are a bit distorted, muffled, but there is not much singing as most of the music are long drawn out jams. 3 tracks totalling 61 minutes of glorious space rock. in my opinion, this line up of neumeier/trepte/genrich is the strongest, spaciest, and best freak-out of all. the 3 songs are from their first 3 releases. strong playing by all 3 members. neumeier's drumming is wild, trepte bass is solid and genrich's guitar playing is intense. think of cream's live at the filmore but more chaotic. guru guru have been around for decades and have had a solid musical existence. cleopatra did a great job on this reissue. comes in a cardboard box, nice sleeve, a small button and balloon. no liner notes or booklet though, so not much offered for recording or historical information. although there are some other earlier 70s releases out and about, i feel this "live in germany '71" is the best quality and performance available. highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Guru Guru - 'Live in Germany 71' (Cleopatra) November 25, 2011
Format:Audio CD
Couldn't believe my eyes when I first discovered this CD given a legit release. In fact, I was the 'source' of this CD - sent to Guru Guru founder / drummer Mani Neumeier in a CD trade we did a few years ago. If you don't believe me, find his site and email him and ask him about it, yourself. I was sort of hoping he'd give this vintage audience recording a proper release as such, and Cleopatra is just the label to do that wondrous task . After hearing the final pressing of this disc, I could notice perhaps a little bit of an improvement of the (already) fantastic-sounding bootleg CD-R. Stunning setlist is as follows: "Der LSD Marsch" (23:30), their galactic rendition of "Bo Diddley" (22:20) and "Spaceship" (15:45). Noticed the set here differs somewhat from the must-have disc three of their Captain Trip '30 Jahre Live' 3-CD box set [see my review]. In the last maybe five or so years, I have in fact exhanged emails with Mani as well as guitarist Ax Genrich and original bassist Uli Trepte (R.I.P.). As Trepte indicated in one of the emails he'd sent me, he didn't at all care for the live Guru Guru material available. If he were still around today to hear 'Live in Germany 71', I would hope that he might reconsider. Packaging here may be a bit flimsy - but the hour's worth of live vintage unreleased krautrock you're getting with this CD is superb. Clearly, a M-U-S-T have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic German "underground" music! April 3, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I first heard Guru Guru in 1974 on a local FM station specializing in Saturday night import albums, and was never able to find it in a record store. Long forgotten, on a whim I did a search and there was the album I had heard. Typical of the 70's psychedelics and brought back some (foggy!) memories of late nights in a smoky room with the headphones on.
