5.0 out of 5 stars Great rock'n' boogie CD
I've listened to this CD for a couple of weeks now and still find new music inspiration from the various solos. The set list has everything I hoped for from Leavell plus a few surprises. A selection of Rolling Stones & Allman Brothers songs are to be expected as these were from the bands Leavell has played with for many years, but they don't dominate the concert...

3.0 out of 5 stars a bit disappointed
I was hoping for piano solo's without singing. Other than that this disc is not all bad.

I've listened to this CD for a couple of weeks now and still find new music inspiration from the various solos. The set list has everything I hoped for from Leavell plus a few surprises. A selection of Rolling Stones & Allman Brothers songs are to be expected as these were from the bands Leavell has played with for many years, but they don't dominate the concert. Luckily this is a double CD that, more-or-less, captures a full concert.

The accompanying German rock combo hold their own and Chuck chose them well for his european tour. Although Leavell's vocals are tested to the limit on a couple of songs, its a CD that was never going to be purchased for just the singing.

The styles of music covered are honky-tonk, rock'n'roll, light jazz and southern blues and a great mix it is to. As entertainment goes, you will get some great mileage out this CD. Originally I bought this CD to study the piano licks & solos of a session legend; in the end I just sit back and enjoy the music every time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Piano Master at Work, July 21, 2008
This review is from: Live in Germany: Green Leaves & Blue Note (Audio CD)
Is it any wonder Chuck Leavel is one of the most sought after Piano musicans working today. ( His credits inclulde The Allman Brothers Band , Eric Clapton ( His piano work on the "Unplugged" album is one of the reasons that disc was as popular as it was / is ) and he's been the defacto Musical Director for the Rolling Stones for their last few tours ) This great set buy Chuck with a stellar backing band is a must have . There is no need to be skipping any tracks on this set , just let it play ! He covers all of the previously mentioned musicans with an obvious favorite being the nicley reworked Allmans Brothers classic "Jessica" , which is certainly Chucks finest and most memorable piano solo ever recorded. Every track is great in it's own way. This set has been in my regular CD roataion since I bought it a month ago , this is a five star gem .

5.0 out of 5 stars Really strong release, March 27, 2009

This is a 2CD set of a German concert that Leavell did as part of a European tour that followed a Rolling Stones tour. A band was put together for some of the dates on the tour of European musicians and they give good support here. Whoever chose the set list did an excellent job as they chose songs from all aspects of Leavell's career- Allman Brothers, Stones,Sea Level, and solo along with a few good covers thrown in. ("Here Comes the Sun" is very good). There's also a good pace throughout the set of rockers and more laid back material. In short, it's everything you would want from a Chuck Leavell concert or live CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Mix, June 19, 2008

This is one of Chuck's better mixes of progressive jazz, blues rock and honky tonk. While his chops don't pretend to measure up to some of the covers' original artists, eg Jagger and Allman, his playing is unparalleled. A couple Randall Bramlett numbers harken back to Sea Level and the other instrumental numbers offer an outstanding listen to his virtuosity. Highly recommended.

If one considers Chuck Leavell's career "only" for his contributions to rock, then his jazz and ballad colorings will be sadly overlooked. Leavell again is on time every time with a "10 plus" in style points. His leading, following, and running alongside all make this live CD an excellent choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars forget clapton, take leavell!, November 24, 2010
Chuck Leavell - the world`s greatest pianist. This album offeres something crossovered from jazz to blues to classical rockin`rollin with a part to honky and bluegrass. Forget Eric Claptons unplugged CD - Leavell is better. Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Too much singing, June 9, 2010

I expected instrumental jazz / rock fusion. The musicality is good, but there is too much singing, and too much rock and roll. Chuck does not have a good singing voice. I love the instrumental numbers.
