4.0 out of 5 stars Macabre puts the Laughter in Slaughter, August 6, 2006
By
Gunther Haagendazs (Up High in the Trees) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Live in Holland: True Tales of Slaughter and Slaying (Audio CD)
Upon hearing that Macabre was going to release a DVD, I could hardly contain my excitement. The band had even posted a sample of what was supposed to be on the DVD which was them performing the song You're Dying to be with Me. Finally the release date strolled on by and I went to a store in Chicago (their hometown) and picked up a copy of Live in Holland. It comes in a very strange, but very cool metal case packaging. I went home and immediately began to watch it.

I was not disappointed with the exception of 2 things. One was that the opening song Zodiac (a favorite of mine) seemed to be played a little sloppy during the transition from Verse to Chorus. The second problem was that You're Dying to Be with Me is not on the DVD. Now there is the possibility that they put it as an Easter egg somewhere but I can not find it anywhere. For some reason this song didn't make the final cut of the DVD. The fact that this one song which they said would be on the DVD isn't, leads me to believe that there may be even more songs missing from this awesome concert.

Other than those 2 problems, this DVD is very enjoyable and if you haven't seen Macabre live before, you'll definitely make it your first priority to after viewing this. Amazon doesn't give you the track listing and neither does the back of the DVD case (the inside does) so I will.

1. Zodiac
2. Jack the Ripper
3. Serial Killer
4. The Wustenfeld Man Eater
5. Dog Guts
6. Fritz Haarman der Metzger
7. Coming to Chicago
8. The Vampire of Dusseldorf
9. Acid Bath Vampire
10. Ed Gein
11. Dr. Holmes
12. Fatal Foot Fetish
13. The Diary of Torture

Bonus songs from another concert
1. Scrub A Dub Dub
2. Mary Bell (with second verse)
3. The Hitchhiker
4. Albert was Worse Than Any Fish in the Sea

Then a poor quality show that even has errors in the footage
Dog Guts, The Hitchhiker, Mary Bell & Drill Bit Labotomy

And of course there is a little backstage footage that goes for about 12 minutes but it's really nothing special.

In the long run, Macabre deliver a great show and really show off their talent as the show seems to get better and better as you progress through it. What is very interesting about this concert is that because Macabre is such an underground band and that this is in Holland, there is not a single security guard seen in the entire show. People are jumping on and off the stage like crazy throughout the show. It almost makes me want to go there just for a concert. I award Live In Holland: True Tale of Slaughter and Slaying, 4 stars for while being a great DVD, it does not have You're Dying to be with Me, which leaves me with this annoying feeling like other songs from the concert were pulled as well. Another reason is that some of my favorites like Embalmer, Trampled to Death, Holidays of Horror, Night Stalker, and Mr. Albert Fish (Were Children Your Favorite Dish?) were not played. Another reason is that there unfortunately isn't any Macabre Minstrels footage, which is hilarious. But these facts aside, you get a great concert and bonus footage with a limited collector's item case that you are sure to watch over and over again. Hoped this review helped.

5.0 out of 5 stars Macabre: Live In Holland, December 25, 2007
Who would have thought we would ever see a Macabre live DVD! This is a must have for all Macabre fans! The sound and video quality are amazing and the track list incorperates songs from Grim Reality all the way through Murder Metal! It's amazing how tight this band is for a three piece, their musicianship really shines through on this one. For the most part each track is played album perfect! Where most live metal DVD's become a tedious display of black t-shirts, beer bellies and hair-whipping; Macabre offers a refreshing dose of humor and energy... not to mention jerry-curl mullets, bibed oberalls and plad hunting caps!

This DVD is awesome!
