DAC Just As You Want Him,
By "valentinesidekick" (Nashville,TN USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Live from the Iron Horse: Biketoberfest '01 (Audio CD)
Being a lifelong David Allan Coe fan,I must say that this release is just what the Dr. ordered:DAC live in concert at the world famous Iron Horse saloon. He may be in his 60's,but age hasn't mellowed David Allan very much, and that's great news for die hard fans. Favorites like "The Ride" and "You Never Even Called Me By My Name" are here, along with great new tunes like" 59 Cadillac,57 Chevrolet","Wreckless","Nothing To Lose",and "Single Father". He even does a Kid Rock tune,"Only God Knows Why",which may look insane on paper, but the song fits him like a biker boot. "I'm An Ohio Boy" is outrageously great with it's spoken word history about this country outlaw's life. Was Bruce Springsteen really backstage during the formative years? Who cares when it makes a great story with an ending like "F..k dude,I'm from Ohio!" Not for the faint of heart, this CD is David Allan Coe at his best. Not a bad cut here,if you are a true David Allan Coe fan, this one is a must!

Anyone who was at this show knows what I mean. It took nearly a year but it finally was released. This was recorded live at the Ironhorse Saloon in Ormond Beach, FL during Biketoberfest on 13Oct01. How do I know? I was there, as close as possible (any closer- they would have handed my a guitar). Not to digress too much, but the IHS is one of the best biker hang-outs in the world, and having DAC play there for 10 nights in a row, twice a year, for FREE, makes it truely an oasis. As a avid DAC, attending multiple shows a year, I have been searching for copies of the songs "59 Cadillac, 57 Chevrolet", "Wreckless", & "Nothing to Lose". His version of "God Knows Why" and the Slim Shady enhanced "Call me by why name" really show you what you're missing if you don't see him live. He usually talks and tells some short blurps of his life explaining why he wrote the songs and this show was no exception (although not the best he's ever told). The bottom line is that DAC puts on a tremendous show from an unbelievably talented song-writer and this would be one of his best. Buy it to see what you're missing. For me, it reminds me of the best years of my life, riding and hanging out in Daytona with some of the best people I've ever or will ever meet. And for all who have not seen him live, do it. And for those who get a chance to see him at the Horse, don't pass it up, it is a something you will never forget.

Coe's Country/Rock--Live!,
By Andrew H. "ajhmerc" (Ohio) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Live from the Iron Horse: Biketoberfest '01 (Audio CD)
This album contains a mixture of David Allen Coe's classics and new material, including some co-written with Kid Rock. Most of the songs are performed in a country-rock style. Coe is playing to a very enthusiasic audience, and his interaction with the audience between songs is part of this album. I'm glad that interaction was left in, because it is entertaining and helps one understand the atomosphere of the Iron Horse Saloon. My favorites are "Son of the South," "When I Was a Young Man," "Only God Knows Why," "Drank My Wife Away," and the classic "Take This Job and Shove It." I have to be in the right mood to listen to this album, but when I do listen I always enjoy it. I feel it was money well spent.

The Iron Horse Saloon comes to life with this live album!,

I am so glad this cd was released because despite being a fan I have not been fortunate to see him live because the age limits happen to be 21 at the places that he goes to around here. This cd helped me almost vision what its like to see a musical genius at work. There is a certain energy to live recordings that is not there in the studio records. Its not the same but it is better than nothing. I will now analyze each track on the album.1. Ohio Boy- This track is a very good autobiographical song. This is a long song and is well worth the price of admission.

Love listening to this CD. If you like DAC, add this to your collection. DAC is much better listened to live. He is a one of a kind, outlaw country singer. See him in concert if you can.

Being an Ohio boy myself, this is one of my favorite all-time albums. My mother actually gave me it for a ride down from my hometown of Cleveland to Ohio State where I attend school. I might be one of the younger DAC fans out there but I still know a great album when I hear one. I've tried to turn as many of my friends on as possible. I haven't had one single person ever try to tell me that this album is anything then great.
For more reasons then one, this album hit home for me and is one of my all-time favorite albums I've ever listened to. I'm fortunate for even coming across it.
