Well-mixed fine sounding rock n roll show with Izzy, December 8, 2009
This review is from: Live [Japan Import] (Audio CD)
Cuttin the Rug is a rippin track as are Jivin Sister Fanny and Highway 49. Actually all the songs are decent heavy riffed blues rock numbers that should be worth a listen to the G n R curious, though there are only 5 songs on the CD and total playing time is short at around 22 minutes. This is the first time I've heard rocker Izzy Stradlin solo and outside of G n R. It's nice to hear him on his own terms. Although his sound is distinct (could remind me of a smoother-yet- harder-edged Rolling Stones), you can feel traces of the group that made him famous. Some great licks, and these early 90s live tracks have a clear strong sound that is probably as much the result of the Japanese mixing as it is the loud guitar playing that it captures. I love Japanese recordings on rock shows - *see the Japan version of the Ozzy/Randy album "Tribute" - it's almost a different beast, with a sizzling guitar that doesn't come through nearly as well on the U.S. version. My point being that I've heard Japanese recordings give new life to records I'd heard before - not that this one has a predecessor, if in fact it is really a Japan only production. Whatever the case may be, the mixing on this recording has got just the right kick.
