4.0 out of 5 stars A little rough and lots of fun!, October 12, 2000

Unlike Hot Tuna's early live acoustic album or the more recent (and wonderful) Furthermore CD, Live in Japan is a little rough around the edges. And that makes it fun. When you listen, you feel like you are hearing the band in a noisy saloon, and they have enjoyed the party as much as everyone else. Many of the songs are the same as on other CDs, but in this atmosphere, classics like True Religion get a whole new personality. Keep On Truckin' has a sexy earthy tone to it not heard elsewhere. As with any Tuna CD, the musicianship is exceptional, and combined with the informal tone of the whole set, Live in Japan is one you will enjoy having in your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Like A Fine "In Your Face" Cabernet, December 26, 2000

A 16 year old girl recently asked me to recommend a Hot Tuna recording to listen to so she could become aquainted with the music her friends parents had been talking about. I recommended this one. It is hard to believe that Jorma and Jack are now in their 44th year playing together, (more reason why there should be a Hot Tuna entry in the Hall of Fame) unless you listen to this cd--which is the music and it's musicians at their finest. If you do not already have this in your collection, you are missing out on the pleasures of a superb, spontaneous performance. I also recommend Jorma's latest effort, "Too Many Years". As with any great cabernet, is there ever such a thing as too many years of Jorma, Jack and Hot Tuna? Enjoy.

4.0 out of 5 stars like you were there, January 21, 2000
This review is from: Live in Japan - At Stove's Yokohoma City 02/20/97 (Audio CD)
If you like Hot Tuna, and if you have seen them live in the last five years, I highly recomend this album. The CD is very representitive of what the current line up of Hot Tuna sounds like. A very under-rated band, and CD, in my opinion.
