5.0 out of 5 stars great blasting death metal, March 11, 2000

This review is from: Live in Japan (Audio CD)
This one hell of a release, It captures Vader live in Tokyo, japan. what makes this a standout is above other live releases is the sound, performance and overall intenstiy of this band, 18 tracks make this death/grind fest at its best. fast techincal with sharp production raging like 747 in the air when cutting through the dense air. If you like vader then this is a must buy, IF you see this kind of cover artwork and not pick up this cd, do it now because this is one of "the" best live death metal releases of all time ! brutal and unrelenting _ Vader

5.0 out of 5 stars Poland Invades Japan!, August 16, 2005

It grabs you and doesn't let go. If you listen to Metal for the drums then this will make you foam at the mouth as you hear Doc pounding away behind his kit. The isn't the best live album per say but it's pretty damn close. It seems that the recording microphones were right by the drum kit and as a result the drums are the highlight of the show and you really do get to see how fast Doc plays. The only problem is that because of this, the drums sometimes overpower the guitars, but that doesn't happen too often. The other flaw is that the excellent cover of Slayer's Raining Blood is miss-titled as the album Reign in Blood. It seems that Vader weren't the ones designing the album as I'm sure Vader would have corrected this error had they been in charge. Slayer had a huge influence on them (and practically every Death Metal band) as this is their third Slayer cover with the other two being Silent Scream and their live version of Hell Awaits.

The last flaw is that although it sounds like this is the entire concert, it is not. The Japanese Import contains two bonus tracks Incarnation (live) and Dethroned Emperor (live) and for all we know, there could be other missing songs as well. I hate it when labels remove portions of a live album, and this is the only flaw that really gets under my skin.

Other then these things, Live in Japan is a death metal album that belongs in the collection of every Vader fan. Whether it be Black to the blind or their cover of Black Sabbath's Self titled song, this is Vader. The dark, mysterious Death Metal band from Poland that gets my utmost respect. These guys know how to play their instruments better than most Death Metal bands and have that Vader edge that can not be replicated. This live album represents who they are and what they do best. Hoped this helped.

Update:

Just recently Former Vader Drummer Doc passed away at the age of 35. He will truly be missed, as he was one of my favorite drummers of all time. His style of drumming was truly unique and grabbing and shall never be seen again. This CD is the perfect way to see just how amazing this man was.

This is an excellent example of Vader at their best in the live setting in 1999. Note that the tracklist includes songs from most of their albums up to and including the Black to the Blind album. Vader's other live album, Darkest Age, is older than this and contains more of their earliest material. There are some cool covers on Live in Japan, like Reign in Blood, and some tasteful instrumental passages. The sound quality is excellent and it's a pretty long set. Great live album from a great band.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vader drop warheads on Hiroshima and Nagasaki !, August 24, 2002

damn, this cd is great! Vader come out to Japan and bring madness like they the Samurai legions have never seen before. All the classic killer tracks are here plus great covers of slayer and black sabbath! very killer performance even if you haven't been there you can tell the intensity of the band's talent combined with raging death/grind warfare. What's the most amazing is that they play random songs from all of their albums with such precision, I don't think any other band could manage that. Simply amazing! Also worth mentoning is the album cover; phenomenal stuff! where do these guys get ideas from? it beams me. Vader's artwork and even music is beyond what any other acts are doing nowadays. This album is worth your entire death metal collection, it's just that good and a live masterpiece that should go down as the best metal-category live cd ever released! If you don't have it, stop what you're doing right now and get your hands on this title or stop thinking you're fan of this genere!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best live Death Metal album!, January 27, 2006
This review is from: Live in Japan (Audio CD)
This is a great live concert from a band you will never see if you haven't already. Their drummer died of alcoholism. Vader is old school Slayer type metal. Every song pulsates with energy. It's cool to think this was recorded in Japan. Death metal really is worldwide. Sothis is my favorite, but they're all great. Git this metalheads.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential Vader, November 22, 2005

This is a great recording of Vader's live performance. Personally, I'm not a big fan of live death metal unless I've already heard the studio albums, so if you're like me you should pick up "De Profundis," and "Black to the Blind" before buying this. Those two albums make up the majority of this material, which is great because they are two of the best albums Vader has recorded. I recommend this much more than "Darkest Age," Vader's other live cd. It may be good, but I've never even been able to listen to it through the terrible production. Vader should really release a new live album, since this is too old to include anything from their past 3 full lengths or their handful of mCDs/EPs, so it's missing a lot of good songs. But until then, this is the essential live Vader album, great for fans of the older sound.
