Great live set that finds Kim Simmonds and Co. in expert form. Kim scorches some amplifier tubes, delivering some of his best live recorded lead work. Despite some stage banter that could have been edited out of the final master, Walker sounds great as well. These days, Savoy Brown ARE a bar band. However, since that label is oviously being used elsewhere as a derogative, I must say that no one is playing sub-par on this gig. All told, this CD represents a tight, well-played set of classic Brit Blues from one of the ONLY classic Brit Blues bands still performing. This release recalls their late 60's and early 70's albums and is better played than their groundbreakingingly imaginative but relatively primal and less-tutored earliest work. If you love UK blues, this is bloody good stuff.

74 minutes of Savoy Brown "the kings of British boogie" They start off rocking and keep on the rest of the way. Old and new songs all sound great. Only thing I did'nt like was a little too much talking after the greatest hits medly. Buy this cd if you like Savoy Brown, it rocks!

Never listened to Savoy brown when I was a teenager into my early twenties, 1970 - 1979. Listened to many bands of the time, The Who, Jethro Tull, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, James Gang, Hot Tuna, CSNY, Allman Bros., Eric Clapton, etc. (and saw most more then once), but never got into these guys. I do remember a friends' older brother having "Looking In" (cover caught my eye) and wondered what it was about, but never played it. Well, recently I began (again) a collection of late 60's & 70's music. Once I hit about 6 to 7 hundred CD's I decided to try some other music I never listened to back then. Needless to say, I own just about every Savoy Brown album at this point, and my collection has gone passed 1000 CD's. Had not been to a concert in about fifteen years and decided to go this past December (2009). Guess who? SAVOY BROWN in a little joint in Troy, N.Y. called Revolution Hall that holds maybe 150 people. Let me put it this way, It had to be one of the best concerts I ever saw. Maybe I was a little too blown-out during those earlier years to enjoy a show (not that I did'nt), but this was unbelievable! A 45 minute warm-up band and then over 3 hours of music from SB. Never saw anything like it, in a bar no less. Many of the old songs (which are, as I said, new to me) were played. The main thing that really impressed me was the fact that this guy Kim Simmonds was REALLY enjoying himself. Even though it was this tiny venue the guy put his whole heart and soul into this show. Missed it back then, but so glad to see it now. Simply outstanding! Just got this 3 CD box set "Savoy Brown Collection" for a great price and I think that the "Live and Kickin'" CD is the best. They are all good, but that one seems to be the best. Maybe it's because of my recent live experience, who knows? Just great music.

Very little to recommend here. Simmonds still shows a few flashes of "semi-brilliance" although they are buried somewhat in the mix. The overall performance sounds like an unrehearsed pick-up band. The biggest disappointment is the song selection; not one of the groups better known tunes is here. Yes there is a track listed as "Medley (Greatest Hits)", but ironically (or sadly) it doesn't include what I consider there best song "Tell Mama"? So unless you're a diehard fan needing to complete your collection, I recommend taking a big pass on this one.

If you love the early days of "Getting To The Point" or even the "Lion's Share" version of this band, look elsewhere....Simmonds still has the heart, but the group's performance here is thin and often as amateurish as a common bar band. If you want some compelling live Savoy Brown, get a copy of "A Step Furthur" (my favorite) or "Blue Matter", each of which has a side of live material.
