Still Alive And Kicking.,
By A. Estes (Maine) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Live & Kicking (Bonus Dvd) (Audio CD)
Last night, my friends and I were struck with disappointment (despite the lack of surprise) to find out that the band we had been anticipating and paid good money to see, Guns N' Roses, had abandoned us. Cancelled, without notice. As angry as I was, I was also inspired. Inspired to stay out til midnight to grab Nonpoint's very first live CD/DVD, "Live And Kicking." I wanted to see and hear a band who actually cares about their fans and loves performing, as opposed to the diva I had hopes of seeing earlier. Nonpoint are easily one of the most underrated acts in the hard-rock genre, and their live show is proof. If you've ever seen them live, you know the intensity, the power, the love and the emotion the band feeds to it's audience. "Live And Kicking," a homecoming concert of sorts, captures that rather beautifully, I must say.
Sounds Like: An amazing live band. The Good: - The band brings out all their best material and a few little surprises. - The songs sound just as good as they do on CD, if not, better. - The "Behind The Scenes" footage integrated into the DVD feature doesn't detract from the concert, and offers a glimpse into life on the road for Nonpoint. The Bad: - Nothing from their second album, "Development" is represented. - The only special features are music videos -- "Bullet With A Name" and "Alive And Kicking." I love the videos, but I expected a little more in features. Personally: I love Nonpoint, always have since 2000 when I was introduced to "Statement." I saw them live for my first time back in April, and will be seeing them again in less than two weeks. This set is, simply put, awesome. It shows the band where they shine their brightest and that is in their live show. The band are at their best right now, in their prime, supporting one of their strongest albums at a point in their career where they are at their most productive and consistent. Best of luck to them. Hopefully the next album and next year are as good to the guys as this one has been. Best Listened To When: Axl Rose lets you down.

Fantastic- MUST HAVE!!!,

I have been following this band for many years and was at the show in Fort Lauderdale last April that is memorialized in this release. I knew that night was one of Nonpoint's best performances and have been patiently waiting to see what the video people captured that night. The results are INCREDIBLE. This live CD/DVD ROCKS!!! And that is because this band rocks harder and in a more unique way than any of their contemporaries. Elias, as the consummate frontman, owns the stage, and Andy, Ken, and Robb are tight, tight, tight! The sound of Nonpoint comes through loud and clear in front of a sold out hometown crowd in a fantastic mix. Some of the best drumming in the genre is on this disc, as well as sizzling guitar and bass. The straight ahead aggro/hard rock sound is buoyed and gains its uniqueness from the occasional injection of latin influences ("Rabia" and "Orgullo" medley as "Spanish 101") courtesy of the hispanic heritage of Robb and Elias. This is my most memorable moment from the show, and I enjoyed it even more on the DVD.
If you like Nonpoint you MUST own this disc. If you are not sure how you feel about the band, go ahead and buy it and you are certain to become a big fan. The bonus features are also great; videos of "Bullet with a name" and "Alive and Kicking." Finally, the camera work is a bit frenetic and the editing fast-paced, but it is perfectly matched with the raw, high energy, vibrant, earthy, gritty bombast that is Nonpoint. A one word review: "Superb."

Nonpoint doing what they do best,
By KevinDeets (the midwest) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Live & Kicking (Bonus Dvd) (Audio CD)
It takes place at a sold out show in their hometown. This is not just their record label trying to cash in. They've been talking about doing a live album for about 3 yrs now. I know it sounds cliche, but Nonpoint is seriously all about the live show. I've seen em over 20x, and they always bring it. I think a lot of other bands try to copy their live show, actually.
The DVD has excellent video and audio quality. It's the entire show w/ some behind-the-scenes stuff in between the songs, as well as an acoustic version of "Bullet w/ a Name." The special features are the vids for "Bullet..." and "Alive & Kicking." In the "Bullet..." video, Ken is wearing a Poison the Well shirt. +1000 pts for that. The concert footage makes you feel like you're at the show. The love footage is about as good as Lamb of God "Killadelphia" or KsE "Set This World Ablaze." As far as the concert goes... it's a really solid, yet somewhat predictable setlist. It would've been nice to hear an old pre-Statement song, anything off of Development, or maybe even "Across the Line," which isn't on any of their albums. The live versions of "Past it All," "The Truth," "To the Pain," "Victim" and "Spanish 101 (Rabia & Orgullo)" stand out a lot, however. This CD/DVD would be a great introduction to Nonpoint for anyone who wants to get into the band. For anyone who has seen np live and wants to re-live the experience, pick this up. It's WELL worth the $15.

Live & Kicking (Your Teeth In!),

The way I actually discovered Nonpoint is that I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. I was flipping through the tv channels & I don't remember if was a movie or a tv show, but what caught my attention was I heard this really cool version of Phil Collins' "In the Air Tonight", which happens to be on Nonpoint's "Recoil" album. I was really amazed at how good it sounded & thought that whomever it was, that it sounded really original because "they" had made it heavy sounding & put their own twist on it. I think I waited until they showed the credits at the end to see who it was. I saw the name Nonpoint & bam!, the rest is history.
I went online & checked out their music & was captured by their sound. I was pleasantly surprised, (being a metalhead), to find out that they are much heavier than I expected. They have a few songs like, "Past It All", that are more melodic than most of their songs yet still heavy. Then of course, you have, "Mindtrip", "Bullet With A Name", "Explain Myself?", "Back Off", & "Hands Off", that are great to bang your head & mosh to. I find it hard to really compare them to anyone else because they have such an original sound. They are a brand all of their own. All of that being said, I CAN tell you that this CD/DVD will knock you on your butt! They put on one hell of a live show & sound excellent! They might not be one of these super famous, highly paid bands, but they deserve to be! They really get the crowd pumping & sound fantastic! It's everything that you would expect from Nonpoint. If you aren't familiar with Nonpoint, you should get yourself aquainted with one of their studio albums first. You've got, "Recoil", "To The Pain", & "Statement", just to mention a few. It's definitely crank up the stereo to eleven & turn up the bass music! Those of you that are familiar with Nonpoint, GET THIS CD/DVD! You WON'T be disappointed. They live up to their expectations & more. I have my stereo preset to a certain setting just for this concert, (with the bass tweeked a little more than I usually do). Ha! I love it! Bang your head to this concert people! It's a 5! Always remember, in the words of Albert Schweitzer, "There are two means of refuge from the miseries of life: Music & Cats". So true! Rock On & Horns Up! \m/

I love Nonpoint and I have seen them before live and it was just as good as this.... They put on a good show everytime. The dvd/cd combo is a great touch and it is always great to be able to see what you are listening to.
No real new stuff is on this, and I would say for me the high-lite :) is the "Past it all" performance on the CD side and the acoustic performance of "Bullet with a Name" on the dvd said. Those are two songs that are played a bit different then normal. If you are a fan of Nonpoint then you will enjoy this cd/dvd!

Nonpoint rules,
This review is from: Live & Kicking (Bonus Dvd) (Audio CD)
If you are a longtime hardcore nonpoint fan or just someone new getting into the band this is the perfect album for either taste. The sound quality on both the cd and dvd are great and the setlist is a good variety of the bands catalog. The only thing I can't figure out is why "What A Day" is on the cd but not on the dvd, but other than that this package is great and well worth the price to rock.
