4.0 out of 5 stars Deadheads - get this CD!, June 6, 2005

This review is from: Live (Audio CD)
"Kingfish Live" featuring Bob Weir is one of those obscure jems that should be in any serious Grateful Dead collection. I saw this lineup in concert back in '74 or '75. It was a wonderful show (for $4.00!) and this CD will give you a good sampling of the kickin' good time that the pairing of Weir and Kingfish could provide. 'Mystery Train/Muleskinner Blues" and "Big Iron" start this CD off with a real bang. Then, it settles into a nice groove with "I Hear You Knockin'" and "CC Rider" before launching into G.Dead territory. "One More Saturday Night" is outstanding. This release is very well recorded for it's time. Weir's voice is in top form. His great rythym guitar work is clear and out front in the mix. Kingfish sounds great behind Weir; the harp really cooks and the lead guitarist is great even if he isn't Jerry Garcia. If you're a Bob Weir fan, you need to experience this excellent piece of Weir's side-project history.
