3.5 Starts--Decent versions of the best of British rock of 1990,
By
This review is from: Live at Knebworth 1990 (Audio CD)
I had to review the CD to offset the two negative reviews. Both reviewers appear to own an older edition of this CD. One pans the CD because it's not remastered and the other reviewer is angry that ONE song is missing in this new version. Both reviewers, then, appear to own and love the CD and they're just saying the new version isn't an improvement. Neither review the actual CD, though! In the 80s and 90s, England had a lot of these mega-concerts and they're all fun. None of them boast the BEST versions of the songs recorded because...well, people would show up and play a few of their hits, joined by a few other mega-stars without practicing the songs overly much. Thus, you'd get a few odd notes here and there. Overall, though, the novelty of having Phil Collins play drums on Zeppelin songs or having Elton John and Eric Clapton play together made for fun nights. The Prince's Royal Trust concerts were like this, too. This concert was a daytime affair and kind of windy and outdoors and the music sounds like it--a wild, wooly outdoor jam by great musicians playing for for fun then for documenting the concert. The Live Aid CD is like this, too. It IS a fun CD, though, and if you don't own live versions of these songs, it's fun to hear them...and if you DO, it's fun to hear the collaborations with other artists. Status Quo and Cliff Richard are outmatched here by the bigger stars on the disc.

Missing song!,

Why has no one mentioned the fact that the Dire Straits song "Money For Nothing" is missing from this edition? Also, the song/artist information listed on this page is entirely mangled.

Sadly, the 2010 release of LIVE AT KNEBWORTH is simply a repackage. The music has NOT been remastered at all, which is something the original release was in dire need of. The only thing different is the packaging. So unless you want a different CD case and, I think, booklet, SAVE your money.
