Biography

During the mid-’70s, Germany’s Kraftwerk established the sonic blueprint followed by an extraordinary number of artists in the decades to come. From the British new romantic movement to hip-hop to techno, the group’s self-described “robot pop” — hypnotically minimal, obliquely rhythmic music performed solely via electronic means — resonates in virtually every new development to impact the… Read more in Amazon's Kraftwerk Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Before they were the Robots, April 16, 2007

Mr. Birdman (San Leandro, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Live (Audio CD)
This appears to be the same concert recording that was previously released as "Concerts Classics" in 1999. There are some very helpful reviews under that heading.

At this time, Kraftwerk Live is my absolute favorite Kraftwerk album - essential for any fans of the Autobahn album. As noted in other reviews, the recording quality is pretty darn good, with clean sound and just a few sound glitches (only 3-4 small mic feedbacks)to give this the authentic live feel. There really is a sense of adventure in this performance, where the musicians act calm and under control, while they are trying to ensure that their instruments perform as they are supposed to (there is an uncomfortable pause between Autobahn and KlingKlang as the electronic drums need to be fixed - or something). The last two tracks are KlingKlang and Tanzmusik (as introduced by the band), not Morgenspaziergang Parts 1&2, as listed on the CD. Unfortunately, as noted by others, the last track fades away after a mere four minutes, making the album about 48 minutes (LP length?).

The only other complaint I have is that there is absolutely no helpful information in the liner notes about this concert - only a brief history of the bands' personnel (including Organisation, the pre-Kraftwerk hippie jam band). It appears that this concert was recorded in 1975, per copyright, which makes sense that this would be a concert performed between the release of Autobahn and Radio-Activity.

This truly is a beautiful and revolutionary album. And it is perfect for calm, dreamy driving in all freeway traffic conditions!
