2nd Generation of Utopia Live at Their Prime, June 15, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Live Ksan 79 (Audio CD)
This is a great addition to any fan of Todd and/or Utopia. The recording quality is...well, not bad, not bootleg bad, as the name might suggest, but let's call it live and rough. Not as polished as Another Live but brimming with great playing and enthusiasm. It sounds like a real concert although I personally prefer a more polished live recording.
The real treat here might well be The Seven Rays, which actually is a medley, containing a section of The Ikon at the beginning. The band really CRANKS through this number which is a true ear candy for progrock fans like me. It isn't any better than the Seven Rays on Another Live but it is fun to hear the "other" utopia play it and play it so well.
They do a great version of the Last Ride at this show. Other standouts include Can We Still Be Friends and the Wheel. Todd's voice and guitar sound great on the Wheel. Different than the original...not the masterpiece of course, but a really great rendition, and again, more music from the progrock days that so many of us love.
Todd talks alot throughout the show, so if you like that sort of thing, you'll get a kick out of his humor.
Of course every live Todd album seems to have to have to include Just One Victory. This is one of the better live versions I've heard.
Nice concert...Just a little rough on the sound quality.
