Editorial Reviews

Here's Diana a decade removed from the Supremes and just months before Upside Down would give her one of the biggest hits of her career. At Caesars Palace in '79, she sings Ain't No Mountain High Enough; Theme from Mahogany; Love Hangover; Touch Me in the Morning; Reach Out and Touch; Remember Me; Baby Love , and more. Hear her scintillating performance on CD or watch it on DVD!

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Impressive Packaging for a Cherished Bootleg, August 12, 2009

This review is from: Live In Las Vegas (Audio CD)
Fans have been waiting for decades for one of the best live performances Diana has ever given from her Tour '79. The tour was filmed for her first HBO special and showcased Diana in her finest hour promoting her critical/commercial smash, "The Boss". The audio starts out a little rocky with the Overture of "Ain't No Mountain" being clipped.

But it is the packaging that is impressive. The photo is definitely from the 90s but it also captures the natural beauty she is with a microphone in hand. All song credits are in tact and there is even a photo-negative clip of shots from the show.

Since this is also one of her best concert tours, it is nice to have it documented on CD, after all these years.

2.0 out of 5 stars A great concert - terrible recording, April 21, 2010

This cd should definitely come with a warning. Another reviewer called this cd a bootleg and that is exactly what it is. Yes, it comes in a fancy trifold cardboard case with some liner notes but nowhere is the buyer cautioned that this cd is not even in standard stereo. Believe me, calling it a bootleg is a definite stretch. It sounds as if it was recorded by an audience member on a cassette recorder. Right from the start the audience is blaringly loud, next level down is the band and backup singers and most difficult to hear is Ms. Ross.

This is a concert from Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas from 1979 and the song list is impeccable and Diana Ross is in top form, what you can hear that is. But looking at the back of the cd it states "RECORDED AT CAESAR'S PALACE, LAS VEGAS, 1979." This would lead one to believe that it was recorded in some way that would be an enjoyable experience for the listener. I'm sure many diehard fans would want a bootleg of any performance of Ms. Ross but I wanted a cd that was of listenable quality, even if it wasn't digitally mastered. Believe me when I say that the entire concert is recorded from the audience which is loud and boisterous and you must concentrate very hard to follow Diana's performance of any song. So deceiving.

Diana Ross did a live album in thge late 70s. HIP-O records is doing masterful digital reissues of her old albums with bonus tracks and superb packaging. The latest edition was TOUCH ME IN THE MORNING and it was just released. Superb. I will wait until the legitimate release of her 70s concert release, hopefully digitally remastered in all its glory. If you choose to purchase this please be aware of what you will be getting. The cd really is of such bad quality that it will be unlistenable to most. (If you check the reviews of the dvd from the same concert it is getting the same negative reviews.) This review is in no way of Diana Ross. Had this been a legitimate concert recording with these songs I would have been in seven heaven.

I love this concert and I'm glad it is finally on CD. I just wish she would release the Central Park Concert on DVD and CD
