5.0 out of 5 stars Earth Shattering Blues
Been listening to Leslie for some 30yrs. I must say this has gut to be some of his finest work. Jimi Hendrix would be proud of his rendition of Voodoo Chile. This is the kinda blues, legends are made of. If you own nothing from Leslie West, BUY THIS!

1.0 out of 5 stars beware the 80's squawking
Very disappointing.
Leslie West is an outstanding guitarist, and can really grab your gut - listen to his late 60's-early 70's work in Mountain. (West, Bruce & Laing, however, is disappointing - too 70's "let's get drunk and fight and scr__" clone band-sounding. Avoid.)
He shows his amazing talents on this disc, too; but then things are spoiled...

I agree with the reviewer who believes that Leslie West is / was Mountain.I am purchasing a second copy today of this fine live cd as I am wearing out my first copy!
The guy is amazing that is all I can say....nobody and I mean nobody has a vibrato like this guy!
When I was in High School in 1970 I heard Mountain for the first time and I haven't stopped since....the sound of Leslie Wests guitar and voice were like nothing I had heard before, ever.
I must say he hasn't lost a step since then and this Cd proves it.
His versions of the Mountain classics on this cd are better than the originals...an that is saying something believe me!
His version of Hendrix's Voodoo Child and Jeff Becks Going Down are difenitive.
I suggest anyone who appreciates fine hard rock buy this cd and turn it up ....you wont be disapointed!

4.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding work by a living guitar legend!, December 14, 1998

Great live rock 'n roll by the driving force behind MOUNTAIN, Leslie West. Anyone who appreciates power rock with virtuoso guitar work will love Leslie West Live. Great covers of classic MOUNTAIN songs (especially Theme From An Imaginary Western), as well as some standard rock classics (Goin' Down).

When WEST/BRUCE/LAING made their first appearance it was nothing short of sensational. Some of the MOUNTAIN tracks were also quite remarkable for their time. LESLIE WEST was one of the best guitarists of his era. However, that was then and this is now.
Compared to some of the awesome talent out there today ( see my other reviews ) WEST is now just one of the better guitarists and not one of the best. He has successfully adopted some of the more modern stylings that advanced electronics make possible and has added these to his already extensive repertoire of chops. Others have taken the guitar further in search of diversity and are a lot more stimulating to listen to. This is good but doesn't quite compare to the likes of JOE BONAMASSA and GARY HOEY amongst others. If you liked WEST in his haydays, you won't be dissapointed, or if you want to add another good / great guitarist to your collection, then this will certainly do.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best of West, January 13, 2009

This album is an excellent collection of Mountain tunes from "back in the day", and others. I chose it based on some of the reviews already online, and an interview in Guitar Player magazine. The guitar solos are great, but you can't bring back the voices of the past. The live format adds to the excitement. Very nice!

He shows his amazing talents on this disc, too; but then things are spoiled with - how to describe? -squawking/eeeekkking/oooorrrking at the end of riffs, sounding like the clone bands of the 80's.
Too bad, because this disc had the potential to be great.
Instead, put your money into Mountain albums, including Avalanche, Climbing, and Nantucket sleighride. Mountain's Woodstock set is good, too.
