For the new and old fan alike,
By Bert Echo (Fort Worth, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Live in Liverpool (Audio CD)
This is a wonderful collection of 17 songs recorded live in August 2001 in the Bunnymen's home city of Liverpool. The tracklisting almost serves as a 'best of'. Songs from each phase of the band are found on the CD. Early songs such as 'Rescue' and 'All That Jazz' are played with the same vibrant energy as they were in 1980. Will Sergeant unique guitar work shines on cuts such as 'Over The Wall' and 'The Cutter'. Ian McCulloch's raspy voice is in top form, especially on 'The Killing Moon' and 'Nothing Lasts Forever'. The band's performance of 'Ocean Rain' is unbelieveable - it seems like it wouldn't be possible to transfer the beauty of the recorded version of this song to a live setting, but they succeed. The new songs (King Of Kings, Supermellow Man, An Eternity Turns, and Buried Alive) stand up strongly with the classics, proving that McCulloch and Sergeant are still creatively relevant. Old fans of the band will certainly find a lot to like about this CD and new fans will a great overview of a wonderful, underrated band. I liked what I heard on this album so much that I bought 'The Crystal Days 1979-1999' box soon after.

Recorded at The Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts in August of 2001 with the new lineup from the comeback album of the year "Flowers" this performance captures the unique sound of thisband with old classics "Rescue,"Lips Like Sugar","Seven Seas"and "The Killing Moon"and several songs from "Flowers"this is a must own for any Bunnyfan and anyone has'nt yet heard this band live. Produced by lead singer IanMcCulloch and lead guitarist Will Sergeant it is a mix of both old and new with a great sound and will soon be a Bunny classic.

Wonderful chills,
This review is from: Live in Liverpool (Audio CD)
A beautiful, moving collection of live songs that lift the spirits and carry you into the sweetest reverie. That voice has only aged with grace, and the band sounds so good live. Those remiss on keeping up with the albums through the years will be nicely served by this work. If you have always loved this band, then hearing them live is a real treasure.
