One of my Top 10 of All Time,
This review is from: Live in London (Audio CD)
This cd is the best. I am waiting for it to be released on DVD as I have worn out my VHS. It is a simply perfect performance and all of the musicians playing on it are outstanding. Everyone is handling their business and enjoying themselves. You can tell! Love Nathan East(of Fourplay) on bass. My favorite song is "Nitakungodea Milele." I can listen to it on repeat over and over again. I would love to have the instrumental version of this, too. Just outstanding music. If you are a music lover, this one has got to be in your collection. Keeping my fingers crossed about a DVD release.

I bought this record when it was originally released. I can only tell you one thing: it is worth it just to hear Al Jarreau perform "Teach me tonight", featuring a magnificent saxophone solo by Michael Paulo. I could hear it a thousand times in a row and would never get tired of it. The album in general is great, with a mix of up-tempo/funky tracks and beautiful slow songs. If you think a live album recorded in 1984 cannot sound too good, put this one to the test. You will never regret it.

Al Jarreau - Live In London,

While stationed in Germany in the mid 80s, I was fortunate to see Mr Jarreau in concert during his "Live In London" tour with (I believe it was) Chaka Khan opening up for him. Wow, Wow, & Wow again ... an amazing concert!!
I own a copy of both the "Live In London" CD & VHS and while the VHS is far far better than the CD, like Mr Jarreau said in concert, "the album is the album but this is live & I like live ... know what I mean!!" His live performance was the absolute "Bomb-diggadee" and his VHS version of it leaves no doubt!! I am really surprised that after all this time, a DVD version of Mr Jarreau's "Live In London" performance has yet to be released. Maybe I should just invest in a DVD/VHS Recorder & copy it for myself in order to spare my VHS copy!! Hummm, now there's an idea! :o) Enjoy both the music & the show!! ;o)

This is one of his greatest albums on CD. It is live and expressive. I am waiting for further re-releases of his past albums.

Great Performance,
This review is from: Live in London (Audio CD)
Al Jarreau is truly one of the best Live acts ever to me. His vocal stylings and emulation of instruments is something you have to see to believe and he pulls it off and adds a whole different dynamic to it. this coolection showcases a tight Band and the versatile stylings of Al Jarreau. he leaves you wanting to listen to this collection over and over again. he is a vastly underrated vocalist and overall performer to me. this collection still sounds Great.

The song he made "After All" is totally the bomb. Al really makes you feel the love and make you really believe in love if you don't believe in it. This man can stir something inside us all with his soothing sounds from those wonderful vocals of his. Al is truly a legend and will always continue to be my favorite as I guess you can tell with "After All' made back in 1990.

I confess I've never been a huge Jarreau fan, although I certainly respect him as a true great among vocalists...dunno why, guess the stuff he sings tend to be a bit too much on the pop or "light" side for my tastes. And I must also confess I heard this album by accident....and now for my final confession: I LOVE this album. Between the high quality performances and excellent mix of songs selected, I've found it so very "playable" so many times. If you'd like an easy-going kind of CD (which I will NOT insult by calling "smooth jazz") done by a great singer, get this. |
