where's the bonus tracks?,
By
This review is from: Live in London (Audio CD)
Spv usually does an excellent job in reissuing cds. the packaging is usually top notch and they include bonus material. for live in london, the cover art has changed, and not to the better, and there is no bonus tracks. get the repertoire version with original cover art and 2 bonus tracks for 20 minutes of extra material. sound quality is not that different.

A European Rock Classic,
By
This review is from: Live in London (Audio CD)
I loved this group the first time I heard them play, and then I didn't understand a word they sung, nevermind, they were the business and they made a great contrast with some of the other stuff I was listening to at that time: Velvet Underground & Nico, Man, Mott the Hoople, Bowie, T-Rex, Gong, Floyd, etc. etc. What was even more fun for an adolescent was taking this home and playing it - much to the disgust of the folks at home. Don't you just love it at that age when what you actually like provokes a negative reaction amongst the oldies? Anyway, what made matters worse was a) these folk were from Germany b) the album had a great cover c) they were interestingly weird for kid, and just weird for the adults I would buy it again! Oops, in fact I did. Regards, Martyn R Jones

Some folks who love AD2 swear that their best venue is live. I don't really agree, but there's no denying that they pack a punch on this live album. "Archangel Thunderbird" and "Eye-Shaking King" rip plaster off the walls, the series of pieces from DANCE OF THE LEMMINGS get positively sinister treatments (Chris Karrer on violin is particularly stunning) and the singing is forceful if not always tuneful (vocals never were Amon Duul 2's strong suit). It's a good live album (WAY better than the one the reconstituted band did in Tokyo in 1994!) and if you like these psychokillers' early Seventies studio albums, you'll enjoy it. Come to think of it, if you like the Velvet Underground circa "Sister Ray," you have absolutely no excuse not to like this album. So there!

New (sounding) classic!,
By
This review is from: Live in London (Audio CD)
Yeah! Like my title says, this is a new sounding record(at least on CD format)compared to the re-issue on Captain Trip Records from a bunch of years back!
I still really loved this live album then ,but it seems that new master tapes have now been found and they make the sound so very crystal clear.Where before the haze of time (and some buzzing) hung over the sound in a veil, now the veil has been lifted and this is a one hundred percent classic! This is Amon Duul 2 in their hey day. A real live performance from 1972,with all the best moves and better versions of these songs than on the original albums. Just buy this if you are a fan.....the cover has changed but the music is just so good.

whoa!,

Early Amon Duul II were at a creative and imaginative pinnacle in their brand of progressive-psychedelia and this album captures them performing with great inspiration and force! Certainly one of the finest psychedelic bands, this could be their best album. The guitar work and the drumming are great and their otherworldly trippiness glows like an acid ember. Material is drawn from their first three albums and well recorded and and remastered by 'EROC at the ranch' on the Repertoire editions with two bonus cuts (the 18:00 minute 'Bavarian soap shop rock' and 'Improvisation on a gulp A sonata') which are amazing. A consistant and challenging rock and roll performance!

Amon Duul II - 'Live In London' (Mystic),
By
This review is from: Live in London (Audio CD)
Concert took place in late 1972, but the record wasn't released until 1974. 'Live In London' shows the curious modern day fans (like myself) just how Amon Duul II was able to nearly master their sound as well as vibe on a concert stage. This is a very strong performance, I thought.Tunes here are mostly from the 'Yeti' and 'Tanz Der Lemmings' albums. Cuts I was more than impressed with were the grand krautrock gem of an opener "Archangel Thunderbird", "Eye Shaking King" and "March of The Seventies". The two bonus tracks tagged on are good too, the 17-minute "Bavarian Soap Shop Rock" and "Improvisation On Gulp A Sonata" appear to be remixes of lp cuts. No matter,'Live In London' is still a keeper. A should-have.

Black Sabbath meets the Velvet Underground at a Jefferson Airplane concert. loud distorted guitars and pounding percussion mixed in with the male/female vox and some noisy improv thrown in. the band kicks off the live show with the truly arse-kicking "Archangels Thunderbird" from the "Yeti" album; which the majority of this setlist is taken from. the set list also contains 3 pieces from "Tanz der Lemminge."
