5.0 out of 5 stars Great band, outstanding performance
I've been a fan of Dave Matthews' infectious live energy for over a decade and have always wondered if any band could compete with DMB for title of best live band. OAR is that band. If you're only loosely familiar with them through their recent radio releases like Love & Memories, Hey Girl, and Heard the World, you're in for a very pleasant surprise. Taking nothing...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great recording, subpar show.
While this is an amazing recording, The show just seems to lack the flavor and character of the OAR that I'm used to. I've been to tons of OAR shows in my lifetime, and they have progressively gotten worse and worse as time has passed. Instead of evolving into a better band as time passes, they seem to be cutting down on the jam outs in songs, and dumbing the music down...

Taking nothing away from the album versions of those songs, they are considerably better live.

This version of Crazy Game of Poker is unbelievable and will have you singing along & dancing in your chair for all 17 minutes. It's worth the price of the album just for that song. Other favorites include About Mr. Brown, Anyway, Lay Down, and of course, the concert closer City on Down.

Buy this album, you won't be disappointed. After you've heard how great they are in concert, you'll be yearning to see them live yourself.

Great CD. I haven't bought a CD in probably 10 years and I saw this concert on tv and had to buy it. Definately check out About an Hour Ago......the best version I've heard and the dude gets down on the piano. Definately a must own CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Epitome of Good Live Album, July 20, 2008

I loved this album. If you like live music - hearing artists do something a little different with the music/lyrics, and hearing an insane crowd sing along...then you should love this. Has great versions of Crazy Game of Poker, Love and Memories, and many others. Truly great.

5.0 out of 5 stars great concert cd, March 11, 2008
This review is from: Live From Madison Square Garden (Audio CD)
This concert was one of the best live shows I have collected. This is a great band, near the genre of Dave Matthews and other college bands but with a bit of a Caribbean vibe. Hope to see them in person one day.

5.0 out of 5 stars This CD jams!, April 16, 2008
This review is from: Live From Madison Square Garden (Audio CD)
I think too many of the people who first heard them when they were just starting out are the ones who are not impressed with this live offering. As someone who was just turned on to their music in the past few years I have to say this cd is fantastic! I think Marc is an awesome front man and the addition of the keyboard jams are wonderful. I also love the additional lyrics on About an Hour Ago as well as Crazy Game of Poker. The whole cd rocks out but my favs are About an Hour Ago, Heard the World, Crazy Game of Poker and Anyway. To me, their older "live" cds are the ones that sound flat. This cd is full of energy and improvosation which is something sorely lacking in today's "musicians". As an avid Grateful Dead fan, it is heartening to hear music like this again. These guys have mad talent and it definitely shows on this cd. Buy it now!

5.0 out of 5 stars OAR rocks, July 3, 2008

Okay, listen, while i will admit, that no, this is NOT the very best album of OAR ever, it's not half bad. we all know their studio stuff lacks energy and sounds poor, at best. and i will also admit that Any Time Now, was probably the best, and Crazy Game of Poker on 34th and 8th is really awesome. but i believe those of you who review this horribly are some serious professional music critics, it doesnt lack energy or whatever. it's good, it's not an amazing album, but it's definitely on par with their style, and 52-50 is fantastic, i strongly suggest you listen to this over and over, as we have all with the previous albums... i find it to be more than an every once and a while album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Suoooooh Goooood, June 23, 2011
This review is from: Live From Madison Square Garden (Audio CD)
This is my favorite live album from O.A.R. I recently got into they boys last december and haven't been able to put them down since. My first studio album was In Between Now and Then, which in my opinion is their best studio album. Shortly after I got this cd, I picked up MSG. How can you not like this album? In my opinion this cd has the best versions, of Hey Girl, About an Hour Ago, Poker, and City on Down is tied with Any Time Now's version, incredible version of Black Rock with the bongo intro. Anyway is personal fav, because I love when they jam, stellar performance by Jerry. Yes I do love 34th and 8th and Any Time Now, but I feel that MSG that have found their sound, as much as I love the old stuff I feel that they have continued to improve over the years and get sick of people hating on the boys, give it a chance, it's jamming!
