4.0 out of 5 stars A quartet with a nu flava
This is a great CD, I was not a Cantons fan until I listened to this CD. The Canton are not your normal quartet group, this CD shows how the canton sing the traditional down-home gospel with a new up-to-date swing. 1.0 out of 5 stars False Advertising
I ordered this CD in good faith and my order was confirmed. Now days later I receive an email saying they did not have it in stock yet they are still advertising it. I think this is very unfair, this company should realize alot of people buy items for gifts and depend on them to be truthful. Why advertise something you do not have?

PS I had to give a rating...

I recommend this CD not only for older adults but for young people like myself who don't normally listen to traditonal gospel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good ol' Mississippi sangin'!, July 20, 2010

This review is from: Live in Memphis (Audio CD)
I love gospel music, but I think I'm out of the ordinary when it comes to being such a young person like me and loving that deep down south old religion gospel! Today's contemporary gospel is ok here and there, but the Canton Spirituals truly encapture the essence of good messages, with good lyrics over good music and good singing (sangin')! I love this cd, with one of my favorites being the Heavenly Choir! I hope you enjoy as much as me and my dad, (which by the way, did I mention is a good ol' Mississippi boy himself?!)

5.0 out of 5 stars The Greatest!!!!, February 28, 2010
This review is from: Live in Memphis (Audio CD)
This is undoubtedly the Canton Spirituals' greatest work and best album. It is good old fashioned down home gospel music with a gritty and soulful vibe that conveys the group's history up to that point. The album kind of symbolizes the passing of the torch from the original Canton Spirituals to new version featuring Harvey Watkins, Jr.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a blessing., September 10, 2001
This review is from: Live in Memphis (Audio CD)
The Cantons' are truly a blessing to me. God really chose the right fellows to pass his word on. They are so real. And Harvey, I have all respect for you. I have never seen a man who loved his father as much as you. Your music is like medicine to me.It makes me feel better when I'm down. Thank you all. You're the best of the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Traditional Live Recording Ever.I Mean Ever!!, September 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Live in Memphis (Audio CD)
This product is definatly a masterpiece. In my opinon it's the album that truly put these brothers out there where they've always belonged as one of the best if not the best gospel artist of today. This album is a blessing for anybody who is trying to do the right things in life such as being a good parent or a good child trying to do what's right in honoring and showing much love and respect to a loving parent. It also touches on other areas such as healing, having faith and beleiving, and just the simple goodness of Jesus. It's monumental in the facted that it's the lasted recording of the beloved "DADDY" HARVEY WATKINS SR.But we realize that he had to sing in that Heavenly Choir. But he will always be remembered and missed.I'm a gospel promoter and i had the pleasure of promoting these brothers in a live concert earlier this year in May and they sounded amazing. To Harvey Jr. never forget from where you came from and who got you there. And as long as you keep holding on to that then the skies are the limit.May God keep blessing you much more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Céline Shines in this Memphis Concert, December 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Live in Memphis [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have just finished watching `Live in Memphis,' and it is unbelievable. You won't find Céline sing better anywhere else besides on stage. When you put her in front of an audience, she becomes alive and can belt out a song with more charisma, emotion, energy and personality than you could ever imagine. Céline certainly is the star of the music world. Us here in the U.S. are lucky enough to know Céline, the French- Canadian international superstar. She's finally recorded a concert for us, this one in Memphis, TN. This video is sure to fascinate any Céline fan, or just anyone! Céline has the greatest dance moves... while watching this video I found it IMPOSSIBLE to sit down! It's also worth mentioning that she's not ignorant about the people behind her voice. She recognizes all of her talented background musicians in an original, unforgettable ballad. The video includes 19 of Céline's biggest hits, plus a rocking performance of 'Twist and Shout!' - Which is exactly what you'll be doing when you listen to the other songs on the video; which include `Power of Love,' `Because You Loved Me,' and `To Love You More' (with the brilliant violinist, Taro Hakase,) to name a few. Buying this video is the best investment you could make! And take it from me... I'm someone who knows. I'm a longtime Céline fan and have to go now, because I want to watch this video again!

The Canton Spirituals is one of the great gospel groups of all time. You can relate with the songs they sing. We had this on VHS years ago, so when we saw Amazon had it on DVD, we had to order it. Highly recommended! You will be blessed by it.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEGINNINGS!, August 17, 2010
This review is from: Live in Memphis (Audio CD)
They'd been around since 1947.
Then in the late '80's Harvey Watkins sang on Melvin Williams solo concert
Then the Williams Brothers produced the Canton's Linve in Memphis
I bought the cd originally because of the titles of the songs, having never heard or heard of the group.
Boy oh boy, was I in for a treat when I put it in my cd player. From beginning to end this disc was
everything that had been missing in quartette music for a while. When I heard Heavenly Choir, I was blown
away. Always in gospel, Mom got her props. But nobody had ever shown that love for Pops like Harvey
showed. Then I got a chance to see the concert on vhs. Had to show it to everybody I knew. And everybody
had the same reaction. This was the beginning and it has gotten better. Sing on Cantons. Keep 'Strugglin' and Strainin' until you get to sing in that 'Heavenly Choir'
