The good the bad and the ugly...., December 24, 2006
This review is from: Live in Milan (Audio CD)
The good...
Wetton's voice is wonderful by any measured standard, and, he is in good voice on this recording. His reading of the pieces is spot on. He is so good in fact that he "almost" obliterates the technical concerns of the CD.
The bad...
The guitar work is redundant and even annoying at times. It gets in the way of some of the finer pieces on the CD. The recording is borderline acceptable (see the ugly).
The ugly...
The first time I heard this CD it sounded like it was mixed through one of my cheap junior high school guitar amps with bad reverb. It has a very hollow sound, like it was recorded from a bad seat in the arena. The hollow sound affects the guitar on some of the cuts and gives it a terrible TWANG sound. The fact that the same note that sounds terrible is hit over and over again on some songs doesn't help.
This is NOT an amazing recording, at least not given the history of Wetton's work. He has put out far better.

Intimate Wetton sparkles, October 16, 2000
This review is from: Live in Milan (Audio CD)
A great acoustic set. The guitar work by Dave Kilminster is amazing - this CD is worth the price for his performance of "Sole Survivor" alone! The concert was recorded just days after John became a father for the first time, and the joy of such an event is readily apparent in the passion of his vocals.

One of the last performances OK,concerning the acoustic set., October 16, 2002

Well We were there in front of the stage(Vigevano Castle Square) with my band and followed carefully the acoustic performance, with an emotional feeling!! Unfortunately it was one of the last exemplar vocal performances in the acoustic set by John, afterwards some familiar accidents and other problems, affected his skill...Anyway despite of his renounce to prog music (since the last UK album)in order to compose more accessible mainstream/AOR albums, even if his voice has not been always clear like in the old times, John has anyway maintained a very good taste (the album "Arkangel" is a typical example). We hope to see Wetton with his friend Hackett together on stage!!
