Biography

What is cool? At its very essence, cool is all about what’s happening next. In popular culture, what’s happening next is a kaleidoscope encompassing past, present and future: that which is about to happen may be cool, and that which happened in the distant past may also be cool. This timeless quality, when it applies to music, allows minimalist debate – with few exceptions, that which has been… Read more in Amazon's Miles Davis Store

5.0 out of 5 stars The last appearance by John Coltrane with Miles Davis, April 26, 2001

This review is from: Live (Audio CD)
This is the radio broadcast of the last appearance of John Coltrane with the Miles Davis Quintet, in Holland on April 9, 1960. (Sean - otherwise very astute - has confused this with another CD from Stockholm, as he acknowledges.)

The performances are excellent - all five band members are in top form. Even though it is only a few months after Kind of Blue, it is more in the hot, 'blowing' style, rather than the cool modal jazz of that studio album.

Very worthwhile for the budget price, even though it is only as long (45 minutes) as the original LP.

4.0 out of 5 stars good, but available elsewhere, September 23, 2000

This review is from: Live (Audio CD)
This cd is an outtake from a Miles show with Coltrane, Wynton Kelly, Jimmy Cobb, and Paul Chambers, from Stockholm in 1960. The complete Stockholm concert that has these tracks is still in print and therefore should be sought out.
