I'm not much for writing reviews, but I can't let this CD continue to go without one. If you're looking for a good place to start your Mississippi John Hurt collection, this is an excellent CD both in the music and quality of the recording. I say "start" because after hearing this CD, you will be buying more. There's just something about this man that brings peace and tranquility to your life when you're listening to his music.

With all CD re-released and compilations, it's a little hard to keep up with what is what.
This collection has a good representaitonsof MJH's songs with the rapport of the live audience.
While a lot of old folk-blues sounds dated (not a knock---I still love it), MJH stays fresh.
Get this with the 1928 recordings and you have a good idea of MJH's style and a bit of who he is. There's very little written material about him. The music makes me think I would have liked to have met him.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing album by a classic artist., January 22, 2009

If you like Taj Mahal, Keb Mo, or even Jack Johnson, you owe it to yourself to get this album and hear where acoustic blues came from. This was one of my favorite records, and the CD brought back wonderful memories.
