5.0 out of 5 stars Marvin Gaye Fans Buy This! You Won't Be Sorry
Like other Marvin Gaye fans, I didn't care much for his live releases. I almost didn't buy this. That would have been a big mistake. This CD is nicely recorded and well produced. Marvin sounds great and the backup band, especially the rhythym section, is excellent. Included are full length versions of some of Mr. Gaye's early hits, not snippets in medleys. I liked...

3.0 out of 5 stars Keep listening...
This would be a really good record for anybody, but this isn't ANYBODY,
it's Marvin Gaye. When Marvin Gaye is really doing his thing, he reaches
an incredible level of emotional communication, as demonstrated by Live, the London Palladium show and the Washington D.C. concert that makes up the 2nd disc of the expanded What's Going On. If you really want to...

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Greatest Talents Ever, May 9, 2003
This review is from: Live in Montreux 1980 (Audio CD)
I've always dug Marvin Gaye but His Live albums are Hit&Miss with me overall.the one from 73 was Hit&Miss.Live at London in 77 is still the Best but this One is tight to me.arguably the Last Live Collection of His worth getting because the one's I've heard on His Last tour didn't hold my full attention.I enjoyed the Arrangements&His reaction&Vibe with the Crowd.Marvin Gaye just puts so much into His Work&Live you hear it on a whole different level.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stay Out The Way Of Marvin Gaye, April 23, 2011
This review is from: Live in Montreux 1980 (Audio CD)
I am a collector of various R&B/Soul DVDs and this one will rank right up there with my best.

Its 1980 and Marvin certainly hit it out the park. His voice was incredible, soring up and down with his unforgettable tenor voice. He was so energetic and he gave of really good songs that also included excellent instrumentals of him playing the piano and even the drums.

He comes out blocks with a simply superb "Got To Give It Up". Now this was the first song and he rocked it like it was the concert closer. Thats when I knew I had something special. He gives us all of his hits and the band was right there pushing higher and higher. For this DVD, I liked his 70s offerings the most.. "Trouble Man", "Inner City Blues", "What Going On" and "Got To Give It Up" were my favorites.

His band was outstanding and his background singers were so well choreographed that at least five times I thought I was watching the PIPs.

The only drawback was the audience. As hard as this band was jamming, you would have thought somebody would get out of their seats but they just sat there almost like they were studying him as opposed to enjoying this great legend.

This is a must-have for your DVD music collection.

If you really want to understand what makes Marvin Gaye so incredible you need to dig deep the 60's hits and the 70's concept albums and THEN check out
the man delivering it live. I enjoy this album, but if you want to experience the "live" Marvin Gaye, you really owe it to him and yourself to keep listening to him...elsewhere!
