5.0 out of 5 stars A New Direction, but Still Unique and Accomplished February 17, 2012
Format:Audio CD
The Strange Boys have released three very solid albums: And the Girls Club (2008), Be Brave (2010), and Live Music (2011). Live Music (an entirely studio release) marks a distinctly new direction for this ridiculously talented band. Their sound is now much cleaner; the singer sounds more like Tom Petty than Bob Dylan; the genres are less 50s and 60s inspired garage rock, and more 70s-90s southern rock/jam band/alt-country. The songwriting is more mature and diverse; production values markedly increased. Finally, Live Music isn't as much a 'dance' record as most of the material on their previous two releases is; however, that's not to suggest that it isn't any less engaging. Enjoy, Harper
