THE RAMAINZ CARRY ON THE RAMONES LEGACY,
By Jim Peoples (Sacramento, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Live in N.Y.C. (Audio CD)
The Ramainz, (Marky Ramone, Dee Dee Ramone, and Dee Dee's wife Barbara Zampini) are a much-needed fix for those lamenting the Ramones retirement. "Live in N.Y.C." is loud and raw, featuring 19 classic Ramones songs and 2 Ramainz originals. Dee Dee and Barbara share the vocals, and unlike the Ramones, the songs are not played at break-neck speed. It is refreshing to hear these songs at original studio version tempos. This album is definitely a "must-have" for Ramones fans.

Dee Dee Ramone Saves Civilization - Again!,
By Lyle C. Belkin (Toronto, Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Live in N.Y.C. (Audio CD)
It is no exaggeration to state that Dee Dee Ramone is the greatest poet/songwriter since the demise of Buddy Holly, the Fugs, and McCartney/Lennon. How he and the Ramones were denied a wider audience by the gangsters who run the music business and possibly our governments is one of those unsolvable, possibly dangerous mysteries, like who killed JFK. If you have somehow stumbled upon this review in complete innocence, then slowly turn around in your chair, close your door, draw the shades shut, make sure your phone line isn't being tapped, and order this album. When your precious bundle arrives, there will be revealed to you a style of rock music of such sublime beauty and raw power that it apparently had to be suppressed. But Dee Dee labours on like a mythic hero, seemingly strengthened by adversity. Do not forsake him. This album is also essential for long time Ramones fans. Dee Dee plays the songs a little slower than the Ramones on their later live recordings, and this turns out to be a major improvement. The beauty of the melodies is allowed to catch hold, and the songs actually seem even more powerful when they are slowed down slightly. Also, Barbara Ramone (Dee Dee's wife) sings on several tracks, and her voice adds an interesting and unexpected dimension to familiar songs. In short, this is album is a jewel, and my only suggestion is that it be followed by a live album of Dee Dee's solo material.

This live album features Dee Dee Ramone, Marky Ramone and Barbara Ramone. Dee Dee plays guitar, Marky plays drums and Barbara plays bass. Vocals are split between Dee Dee and Barbara, with Dee Dee singing about two-thirds of the songs. The material consists of old Ramones songs, with the exception of two songs from Dee Dee's solo album called Hop Around. The material is well played and sounds almost as good as an actual Ramones concert. Ramones fans should enjoy it, especially if Dee Dee was your favorite Ramone.

this basically a dee dee and barbara live album with marky as a special guest. after all this time i have been looking for a live album with dee dee and barbara and i finally found it under a band name i would have never thought to look for if i hadn't seen it another review for latest and greatest. Barbara sings about 8 or 10 out of the 21 songs and she is great dee dee sings the rest and is also wonderful. so if you are tired of hearing studio of dee dee and barbara then get this if you can find copy it's pretty much out of print except for a few on ebay and every once in a while a copy or two will finds it way to amazon but for the most of part its out of print. A great album by great musicians get it if you can find it.

Fantastic Must Have,
By Mike D. "Mike D." (New York City, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Live in N.Y.C. (Audio CD)
Dee Dee Ramone wrote most of the classic Ramones tunes anyway and on this live album, performed in a small NYC club in 1997, he sings them as well as shredding away on the electric guitar. Marky Ramone provides his usual incredible drum work, and this album is a raw, sweaty, brutal masterpeice. It should come with a warning label: For Hardcore Ramones/Rock and Roll Fans Only.
