Another Jordan that flies...,

This is simply one of finest displays of jazz artistry on guitar that I have heard in many years. Truly a proud accomplishment for Blue Note.

Once around ten years ago I did buy Cornucopia from Stanley Jordan which comprehend few tracks from this NY concert. That was an awkward album with some tunes recorded in studio with syntethizers and electric arrangements. It was a bad idea. The magic live recorded jazz tracks and the poor more modern material didn't match. The fact is that a couple of those live jazz tracks were so good that they are still among my all time favourite jazz tunes ever .... I own almost every jazz cd published (joking, anyway more than 3000!!). Stanley's versions of Trane's Impression and Prevert's Autumn leaves define what jazz is all about. I can't explain really how good are those tunes !! Other tracks from this concert are still fantastic works, but those two man ... unbelievable. Yes they are easy tunes but the band played them at unreachable heights that night.. I want to tribute the fantastic job the entire band did that evening, but a special appreciation for the late Kenny Kirkland. He was probably the best contemporary jazz piano player, with few others, Don Grolnick, Keith Jarrett, .... few, very few. This is the only recorded material I suppose where you can hear him play seriously. A cd I can't stay too much far from.

I have seen Stanley Jordan live at the Scullers, and his performance does not get better than this cd here. His appearance at Scullers failed to impress me, but this cd did it! Track 6, Willow Weep For Me is an excellent tune that he goes all out. Though a slow tune, his solos are unbelievable. Personally, I think that he is better than Joe Pass, though less consistent. Impressions, Autumn Leaves, and basically 1-6 are all good, but you lose interest after these songs, however, I would have bought the cd if it had just these 6 songs. A very good cd. I DO NOT recommend his other cd's, and his DVD Live in Montreal is so so.

I just purchased this album, and I'm deeply impressed by his playing. I'm also just starting to get into jazz; if you are too, I highly recommend Jordan as an introduction, a brilliant perfomer!!!

Absolutely mesmadazzmarizingly depressing.,

Caution: if you are spiritual, Catholic, Christian,Muslim or of any such faith that is devoted to spreading the light of truth and beauty in the midst of darkness. With respect to belief in a being of higher authority. and you are a music fan ( not to mention a guitarist) you should know that it is my fondest belief, that Stanley Jordan has engaged in some form of questionable magic? as it is obvious that he has sold his soul (like Hendrix before him) to play the way that he does (mind you the band ain't too shabby either). I have seen the man live and it is simply depressing. The fact that one individual could play the way that he does, is both inspiring and humbling, especially if you are one who picks up the same instrument as Mr. Jordan.
