Patti La Belle is, for many, an acquired taste. But love her or not , you have to respect and admire the power of that voice. As a fan for close to 25 years, I know for a fact, there is nothing Patti can't sing, no song she can't stamp with her unmistakeable style. This box set proves it. Her staples like "New Attitude"and"You Are My Friend" are always sung with passion and force, but I feel the highlight of this song-pack CD is the inclusion of "If You Love Me" a ballad written years ago for French songstress Edith Piaf. Here, we are blessed with Patti at her best. No back-up singers trying to outsing her, or musicians attempting to divert audience attention , Patti, her own band and an orchestra with a killer string section give us an absolutely magnificent ballad, sung with more delicate force and passion than any Whitney, Mariah or Celine could ever accomplish. Best of all, Patti is simply being Patti. She is a strong, down to earth, compassionate woman, who always makes time for her fans, never takes their love or their respect for granted, and is never above saying 'Thank You' or more importantly 'I Love You'. In a world such as ours, it's nice to know that there are still people like that around, and nicer still to know that one of them is Patti La Belle. Thanks Patti.

Sing Patti! The ultimate diva gives you her all in this, her second 'live' recording. I've been a Patti fan ever since "I Sold My Heart To The Junkman" and "Down The Aisle". OK, so Miss Thing does give you vocal overload at times, but, that's Patti. I'll take Patti any day over some of these no-singing young newcomers (i.e., Mary J. Blige, Monica, Brandy, Celine Dion, Faith Evans, and even Debra Cox - to name a few). My only complaint on "Live! One Night Only" is that Patti's duet with Luther was not included on the recording. Of course, that's good reason to get the CD/video box set. Check out Patti's background singers too! These are some jammin' brotha's. But I truly miss Debbie Henry, Connie Draper, and Tommy Johnson. As usual, Patti is all the way 'live'.

I have been a Patti Labelle fan since 1972 when she unleashed the hit single, "You Are My Friend". This live album, Live! One Night Only is her best to date. When I saw the live PBS special, after all these years, I was still amazed at her vocal range and her ability to command the stage. I belive this is classic Patti. The vocals are flawless and mesmerizing to the listener. I sang at an 1989 concert with her and she is as caring and real as this concert displays. I thought she couldn't do "If You Love Me?" any better or with any more passion. I felt God there. This rendetion brought tears to my eyes and delight to my ears. She moves into your heart like a warm embrace that makes you feel safe, loved, electrified and free. Her redition on this cut is phemomenal! She cries, she wails, she soars and dances. She is Diva! Her voice is ethereal, piercing and proud to be in the rafters! Other stand out tunes on this boxed CD are: the Bells, Over the Rainbow, I believe I Can Fly, Sparkle and Don't Make Me Over. I know of no other artist, not Aretha, not Jennifer Holiday, not Whitney, not Mariah nor any other to compare. Patti is Diva Incarnate. She is the consumate performer. The beauty and depth of her voice mirrors the warmth and power of her soul. This boxed set, Live! One Night Only is not to be missed!

THere is nobody like Patti Labelle.SHe can really hurt you with Her 5 octave range voice.And the C.D not only gives you a taste of what she can do, But she gives you more than a mouth full. Patti is so great on this C.d Live one night only that it earned her the 1999 Grammy Award. if you don't got it, get it. everyone who like's patti labelle should get it because it is a must have that will last forever. I leave saying this, When patti comes out with her gospel album go and get it when it hit the stores and show her how much she is really loved. Much love to you.

Patti does what she always does...., give of herself like no one else can. At age 54, she shows that she hasn't lost a step at all. She still hits the notes up in the clouds. From the beginning to the end, this CD/video is the emotional rollercoaster ride performance that Ms. LaBelle is known for. What else can I say??? There will never be another Patti!!!!

What can you say? Okay, patti does do those "explosive" vocal runs on every song but that the beauty. Now I am only 22(and from Maryland--where Patti's BEST MOST DEDICATED fans are) but Patti recorded "I Believe" back when she was with the Bluebelles (Have have the double album "The Best of Patti Labelle and the Blue Belles)and she blows me away with this song (and "Impossible," "You'll Never Walk Alone", and "Where Are You" sounding better than ever on Live! One Night Only (Sarah Dash and Cindy Birdsong hit those really high notes back then, I think) Now I saw her PBS special and She moves with grace and power through "He Doesn't Love You", "Flame", New Attitude with ease. . .and sets the house on FIRE with "Lord's Side" and "You are my friend".

I have been screaming the backgound to "The Bells" and "Is it Still Good To You" On the second disc she really showcase her band--the orchestra on "Don't Make Me Over" and "On My Own". Special mention to that fyne, Brother with the beautiful voice, Charles Buie--do you hear him on "You are My Friend" on the last live album, and when Patti was on the Lou Rawl's parade of Stars? That deep tenor is perfect everytime: singing "On My Own", "Lady Marmalade", "I Believe I Can Fly" hitting that perfect last note on Over the Rainbow (his ". . . fly. . " is the same note that Patti begins on "Some. . ." on Over the Rainbow. Also Anthony Williams (whom she called the next Luther) is baddddd on "If Only You Knew", throws down on "The Lord's Side" and of course "On My Own" ("so many promises never could be spoken. . .losin you it cutts like a knife, you walked out an left with my life. . . i don't wanna live with out yo ouo ou ouuuu woooouuuuuuuuuuuuuu)Sing Brother sing!!!

I don't particularly like Miss Sony (former) M. Carey, but she hangs with Patti on "Got To Be Real". Her singers "Melanie and the Girls" are tight. They fill up Sparkle and "Hold On, Change is Comin"

The audience makes the recording, really, the Brother who yells out "Fly Patti, Fly" during Over the Rainbow brings tears to my eyes. The fools who sing with her on Lady Marmalade make we cry laughing. The Brother who sings ". . .my friend. . ." "On You are my friend" tell you that you are at a Patti concert.

Unfortunately the CD version has the Levert's singing the duets with Patti rather than Luther. Just more reason to buy the video and the CD. Luther also sang "I Know" on the PBS Special, not included on the album or video

I recently wrote a fan letter to Patti and I said, 'I, too, shall spread my wings and fly on your inspiration and the goodness of God, I see you Over there.

This album is gorgeous, soaring, inspiration, throw-down, get up sangin. I've listend to it everyday several times a day since I bought it. It is truly the Bomb (All her albums, even with only new material should be LIVE)

This is a visual and audio thrill. Patti's One Night Only showed her at her best. To hear her is divine to see and hear her made us want to dance and sing to each other. Any one who loves Patti, will love this set. It is a must have young or old, in love or not.

A lifetime investment. I couldn't wait for this CD to be released in my country. From the first song, 'I Believe', my all time favourite right through to her sign-off, 'Over the Rainbow' (all due respect to Judy Garland), Ms Patti does it again. Highly recommended for people who appreciate some really beautiful and powerful singing. "You Are My Friend" really shines in this album. With guest appearances by Eddie and Gerald Lavertt and Mariah Carey, this album portrays the strength in this Diva's voice. "Powerhouse" Kia Kaha Ms Patti

Nothing and nobody can come close to the awesome vocal power, presence and delivery that emerges from Patti LaBelle. This CD is a definate winner that will prove to be a jewel in your CD collection. This live concert recording features her greatest hits seasoned with some old cuts from her Laura Nero days with the Bluebells and also a few from her days with LaBelle. The song list contains all of her better known work from the 80's and 90's that always has the crowds to their feet when she performs them. This is by far the very best Patti LaBelle CD available.

I've believed for a while now that if I was stuck on a desert island, and had only one CD set to bring along, all I'd need is Patti LaBelle's Live! One Night Only. It's as if I'll never get enough of this masterpiece of a live performance. Upon hearing the CD, I became a fan, and no one's voice in my 21 years has touched my soul the way such tracks as "You Are My Friend" and "Change is Gonna Come" have. If Patti simply released live recording after live recording for the rest of her career, I will be one happy young man. So deeply am I inspired by Patti's sheer artistry that New Year's Eve last, I chose to have my own "countdown" with Patti--with my earphones on, I welcomed to my heart Patti's "I Believe" in hopes that it would have an effect on my singing soul for the remainder of the year. It has done that tremendously. Pick this one up, and be inspired over and over again!
