5.0 out of 5 stars BUY THIS !!! You will smile : ), April 19, 2007
This review is from: Live: Official Bootleg (Vol. 1) (Audio CD)
Been a huge Dada fan since Puzzle & Dizz Knee Land (which was originally titled Disneyland on the pressing. Disney sued due to the "violent" nature of the subject matter, and subsequent issuances were re-spelled to pacify Disney (now a promoter of some far,far worse content in thier media). IMHO this is the best trio, if not the best band to come out of the 90's. It is very sad that they did not meet with more financial success. But they have put out music that is unequalled in it's muscianship, and complexity & simplicity at the same time.
I saw them live 1 time, at Ziggy's in Winston-Salem NC in 2004. It was an amazing night I'll never forget. Michael Gurley was there playing with the flu, no less, what dedication! They sounded flawless.
This CD is a great capture of thier in concert ability.
Joie Calio's performance of "Moon" is alone worth more than the price of the CD.
I find myself at a loss for words to describe the talent this trio exhibits......

5.0 out of 5 stars You could start here..., April 30, 2004
This review is from: Live: Official Bootleg (Vol. 1) (Audio CD)
Ok, this is a great way to discover this band. From the extended drums of Posters, to the soul wrenching of Baby Really Loves Me, this is just great listening. This band is a fantastic live band and this is a great sampling of their stuff. I would write forever about this band. This is exactly the way they sound live.

I saw dada in concert a year ago and have been a dada fanatic ever since. This is the first album I bought (at the concert). I love this album, but didn't become a dada fanatic until I bought their 5 studio albums. You can get most of their albums here, but should check out their store at dadatheband.com since some are cheaper there (several of their albums are sold out there so you need to get them here). This album is best for someone who loves dada already or loves to watch Santana in concert, for example. With this album you get a nine minute version of Ask The Dust, a drum solo that moves into their song Posters and audience participation with their two anthem songs - Feel Me, Don't You #$@ and Here Today, Gone Tomorrow. You also get a wonderful live versions of Dizz Knee Land and A Trip With My Dad. These three musicians are phenomenal. If you don't own any dada music, start with Puzzle. You can get the used IRS version cheap, but they have a new release with bonus tracks that you'll want to pick up later (so you may want to start with those anyway). All of their albums, including their solo albums are fantastic. If you like 60s psychedelic music, then pick up How To Be Found. I think their albums dada and El Subliminoso have more of a Alternative/Modern Rock feel, and American Highway Flower has a slight southern rock feel. All of them are 90s alternative with superior musicianship and harmonies.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not what you'd expect!, January 7, 2004

I was a fan of dada back in the mid 90's and bought this album for pure nostalgia, not expecting anything stellar. I was wrong. The production is great and it was much better than other live albums. No intense crowd noise and the vocals are spot-on.

I was really into this band back in the 90's and it's good to see them still out there playing good music. This is a pretty good collection of their best songs and you'd hardly know it was a live recording. I'm not too hot on the drum solo, but this is a great band and great record nonetheless.

This is a band that was sorely overlooked in part because of their record company's demise. They truly have it all.. songwritting, great vocals and excellent musicianship. Unfortunately I've never seen them live however this cd does a great job of capturing them fleshing out some of their best songs. It is a good introduction to this trio.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect capstone to the Dada collection... A must have!, January 15, 2004

This review is from: Live: Official Bootleg (Vol. 1) (Audio CD)
Dada is back and the gift for all that waiting is their new live CD. "Live: Official Bootleg" open with "Dim" from their first CD "Puzzle." It's classic Dada, catchy as can be, great three part harmonies, and a killer solo from Gurley. Other standouts include "Feel Me Don't You," "Here Today, Gone Tomorrow" and the beautiful "Dorina." Although this performance concentrates mostly on songs from "Puzzle," "El Subliminoso" is represented here by a great version of "Trip With My Dad" and from 98's self-titled CD comes "Playboy in Outerspace" and "Baby Really Loves Me." Phil Leavit's drum solo that starts "Posters" shows us not only what a great drummer he is, but how much his stint with the Blue Man Group has paid off. But the real high point here is their nine minute version of "Ask the Dust." This is one of my favorite all time Dada pieces as a brillant song musically and lyrically. The performance here is stunning! The first thing you'll notice about this CD is the sound quality. It's so good you'll have hard time believing it's live. The second thing you'll realize is the great, dead-on three part harmonies. The third thing that came to me was "Oh my God! These guys are a three piece and sound this good live." There are no overdubs on this CD, at least none that I could find and I've listened over & over on that one. These guys actually are this good!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure rock, January 6, 2004

Dada's new live album cuts through the meathead frat-boy rock of limp bizkit and nickelback like a ginsu knife. If you're sick of TRL defining rock music for you, pick this up.

Have been a fan of these guys since 92 and Puzzle. Recently saw them live for the first time and was overjoyed. The sound they put out for a trio is astounding. Great singing and playing and hang out after the show and you'll probably get to meet and speak with them. They are without pretense, and truly refreshing as people. My brother has got to hang out in hotel rooms and on the bus with them and confirms this.

Buy this and AHF and Puzzle and the others. Most important, if they play near you GO SEE THEM. You will be amazed>

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic recording of a phenomenal band!, December 16, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Live: Official Bootleg (Vol. 1) (Audio CD)
I discovered Dada in the 90s when radio hits like "All I Am", "Dim", and of course "Dizz-Knee Land" rang sweet to my ears. I picked up American Highway Flower and Puzzle albums and realized that these guys had a really unique sound. Sadly, I never had a chance to see them live, but this disc gives me a chance to live out that experience. The sound quality is excellent, but more importantly, the musicianship is phenomenal. Mike Gurley has such a "balls out" approach to the guitar and his leads scream throughout. The whole band sings great and plays great too. I wasn't familiar with some of the tracks, but there really isn't a song on here I don't like. However, if somehow a live version of "Scum" was included in the set, I probably would be brought to uncontrollable tears of joy!

Maybe in Vol. 2?? One can only hope. If you like 90s rock, get this disc, you'll love it!
