5.0 out of 5 stars Hugely influential CD on me as a gospel musician, November 21, 2004

This review is from: Live in New Orleans (Audio CD)
This is a solid GMWA CD when the spirit of James Cleveland was still largely influential over the organization. Kurt Carr fans get to hear a selection by him. Tramaine Hawkins fans get to hear a solo by her on "I've Got to Hold On". Darryl Coley fans get to hear him on a track too. Before the WOW compilations, GMWA was a major way to hear a collection of compositions from a wide range of heavy hitters in gospel. More importantly, charts from all of these tunes are still available. For musicians who learn by sheet music, GMWA remains a powerful source for a wide range of gospel music. My prayer is that many of the contemporary gospel musicians who have built off the foundation of GMWA will not completely overlook many of the classic choir tunes contained in sets like this.

4.5 stars, mostly for historical impact on the black choir tradition

5.0 out of 5 stars Glorify Him With GMWA!!!, June 4, 2011
This review is from: Live in New Orleans (Audio CD)
First, this album was recorded at the 1989 National Convention in New Orleans. That year the Mass Choir and The Youth Mass Choir recorded albums. This was one of the last GMWA Albums with that authentic sound.

This album is a very anointed album. Stand-out songs include "Hold On" with Tramaine Hawkins, "If God Be For Us" with The Kurt Carr Singers, "Give Him The Praise" with Daryl Coley, and "Every Day Is Thanksgiving" with Debbie Austin. Those songs really makes you want to get out up out of your seat and clap your hands. This album is well-worth buying. You will not be disappointed.
