Best show of 98,
By A Customer
This review is from: Live Phish Vol. 6 (Includes Bonus ShowCase CD Organizer): 11/27/98, The Centrum, Worcester, Massachusetts (Audio CD)
All of the Live Phish releases are amazing shows in their own right, but this particular show, 11/27/98, was one of the most unbelievable nights of music that I have ever heard from Phish. The first set is nearly flawless. None of the tunes are really very over the top, but they are all played extremely tightly and well and the energy just builds and builds throughout the first set. While at this show, my friends and I could just feel that the first set, though stellar, was the calm before the storm. We just knew they would shift it into high gear in set two. We even telephoned some friends from the show, something I never do, and told them we were experiencing what would go down as the greatest Phish show ever. By the end of the first set the Centrum was simply rocking with anticipation of what was to come in set two. And we were not disappointed. Phish always seems to deliver in Worcester and this night was the jewel of the Fall 98 tour.By the time the lights went down for set 2, the Centrum was simply overflowing with energy and anticipation. When the band hit the stage they didn't so much start up a song as catch the wave of energy and take off on a musical juggernaut that would not let up. The second set, beginning with Buried Alive, simply must be heard to be believed. They seque in and out of both Chalkdust Torture and Wipeout through most of the songs of the set and the music just never lets up. The madness continues with several rare and very welcome classics and a mindblowing Mikes > Hydrogen > Weekapaug complete with a Wipeout tease for good measure. By the time Antelope started most of us were begging them to stop because we were simply too tired to muster any more energy to dance to Antelope. It was that good. The encore was a perfect cap to the evening of surfing the wave with Phish and they left us more than wiped out. All of the Live Phish series is great, but this show is one of those special moments that sticks out as a monumental display of both Phish's skill and energy. It is very easy to see why they selected it as part of the initial release of shows. This is a must have for any Phish fan and a great introduction for any curious music lover.

This is one of Phish's best choices so far for the Live Phish series (on the contrary, why did they release 9/14/00?). The sound is fabulous, and the show is extremely energetic and fun. One of the best shows of 1998.

I've been listening to Phish for the past 4 years. This is one of my favorite shows. There really isn't such thing as a bad Phish show, but this one is just awesome. Also, the Cd Organizer is great for the Whole set of live phish (which I do have all 6 volumes.) I recommend 100%!!
