Biography

Steve Hackett abandoned his plans for a career as a harmonica player when he joined Genesis in late 1971. With Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks, he enjoyed phenomenal success, with 1973’s Selling England By The Pound and 1974’s concept album The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway gaining “Classic Album” status. This double CD live album is a MUST listen for any lover of Progressive Rock and music in general. The compositions are flawless and the recordings impeccable. Steve Hackett, the genius behind this music is by far the most unheralded, unrecognized musician, performer, composer and guitar player in the world (unless of course you have been paying attention since he left Genesis). You will NOT regret buying this CD!!! TEN STARS!

Steve Hackett at his best! Spectal Mornings, Everyday & Los Endos outstanding tracks on this cd.Firth of fifth never sounded better live. If you close your eyes, you would swear you were back in time at a Genesis concert. I highly recommend this cd! Outstanding.

Of all the disparate members of the original Genesis 70s lineup, Steve Hackett reigns supreme as the artist and performer who not only pays sincere homage to his past, but challenges his audience to an ever-expanding re-interpretation of his artistry and his music. "Live Rails", as with all of Hackett's live issues, once again finds the guitar virtuoso at his best. I would highly recommend "Live Rails" and any of Hackett's earlier live releases to any fan who wants to "take a little trip back..." or to "push beyond the existing stagnant musical forms".

I have been a huge Hackett fan for over 30 years. That being said, I will not disagree with any of the other opinions here. This is great stuff. My complaint is that this seems hastily thrown together. There is no smooth transition between tracks to give this live presentation the flow that it deserves. The audience noises cut abruptly at the end of tracks, which I find annoying.

A true progenitor of "progressive rock".Hackett is a very original guitarist /muscian,who is primarily known for his contributions to GENESIS-in their hey-day.He's continued to explore&experiment.Equally adept @Blues(!)fusion,classical*(check out his cd of all SATIE pieces!)this band is smokin!!inspired performances-&-improv.:they listen to each other! This covers recent releases as well as oldies(RE:Genesis )materialIt's a double cd of pure pleasure.PS-I look forward to the new cd/band W/YES Chris Squire:Squackett anyone.YEAH!Buy NOW!!--

Once again Steve Hackett does not disappoint. He truly appreciates his fans which motivates him to really do his best when playing and recording. Steve is a true musician and composer and his live shows are full of energy and they sound great. Live Rails is full of fresh energy. I really enjoy it. Thanks Steve Hackett

This is virtuostic and melodic prog at its best. The combination of Hackett solo material and Genesis material works wonderfully. Two of the pieces are slightly reworked numbers from the Wind and Wuthering and Trick of the Tail albums - two of my favorites from the post-Gabriel and pre-80's period which featured some of their most beautiful and accessible pieces, while still being true to the prog genre. I would aver that the vocals on this album are even stronger than Gabriel's or Collins's.

Can't say much more then all of the other 5 star reviewers here. I'd give it 6 if I could. The only thing more astounding then the music on this CD is the fact that this was all done LIVE. Even had this been a studio recording, I'd call these performances amazing. The fact that is a live performance(s) is just mind boggling. One of the tightest, most talented groups of musicians I've ever heard, and the recording is impeccable.

A true dream come true would be for Steve to release a DVD of this same concert footage, if indeed it was "filmed".

I'm just gald to hear, after sooooo many years, one of my favorite all time guitarists, and personal guitar inspirations, still going so strong, and in fact sounding better then ever! Thank you again Mr Hackett !!!
