Natty Dread Ina Babylon,
By
This review is from: Live at Reggae Sunsplash (Audio CD)
One of the great live reggae Cd's, the chanting dread Big Youth mashes it up big time. The mood here is joyous, even in tunes like "Green Bay Killing" and "Every N----- is a Star" (unfortunate title, but great song). But the grand finale in "Hit the Road Jack" is a master piece! Stuff like this are what live albums are made for as you hear the crowd really get into what Youth and his Sagittarius band are doing. A must!

The Mighty Big Youth Mashes Up Sunsplash!!,

This review is from: Live at Reggae Sunsplash (Audio CD)
This is a classic recording of Big Youth from Reggae Sunsplash 1982, taken at a time when Jah Youth was at the height of his powers and backed by the mighty Soul Syndicate, a.k.a. the Archangels.Youth sets the tone early with the crucial I Pray Thee/Satta Massagana, then proceeds with a stellar set of hits and classics from his illustrious career. The album alternates between Youth's fiery sermons unto Jah and relaxed roots, with the Syndicate bubbling behind the whole way through in top form. Fully Fullwood's bass, Santa's drumming and Chinna's guitar work mesh perfectly with Big Youth's regggae vision. Every track is a highlight, and Youth ties it all up with a vibed Hit the Road Jack, leaving the audience and listener begging for more. Don't hesitate to experience the power and excitement of this reggae superstar; this album is recommended! |
