I think Rough Cutt used to write some really good songs and after hearing once I live Rough Cutt concert on the radio which was really heavy I expected alot. Unfortunately the heart is torn out of this CD with the recordings of Black Widow, Take Her and Dreamin' Again which sound as if they were recorded in an oil drum. Also the three studio songs are not from the Rough Cutt I used to know, as they are really grungy. The rest of the CD is good so only three stars. I cannot believe it as they apparently spent months selecting recordings for this CD. I wish a had a copy of that live concert on the radio.

As Rough Cutt come together for their 90's try at recapturing their 80's glory (see Ratt, Quiet Riot, Poison, Cinderella, Warrant, Culture Club, actually everyone from the 80's is having a reunion this year!), we find a tasty chocolate kiss with a new flavor in the center. This disc finds the band in Japan,1986 playing some very raw versions of the standout tracks off of both their debut and "Wants You" albums. The band's liner notes explain that their is little or no technical doctoring anywhere on the live material from this disc. The new studio material,(one cut "House of Pain" on the domestic, two more on the import!)sounds like an eighties metal band playing nineties music. Which of course, is what it is! However, Just because Nirvana and Alice in Chains sell, doesn't mean that we need more of it! One of the things we loved about the old rock/metal scene was it's sense of fun. We really don't need more dreary 'complaint rock'! Come on guys, Smile, and bring back our rock-n-roll!
