Amazing Live Performance,

Shawn McDonald's first album "Simply Nothing" is phenomenal, but it is this live version of his songs that truly brings them to life. McDonald's voice soars over the stripped down acoustic instrumentation and his message is even more heartfelt than in the studio version of the same songs. My personal favorites are the poignant "Hold On" and his fabulous cover of "Over The Rainbow." This is truly a wonderful album for both Christian music fans and secular music fans.

I was drawn to Shawn's music last year with his release of "Simply Nothing". His testimony is awesome and his lyrics are genuine and to the point. His style of music is very unique (acoustic w/ r&b undertones) and easy to listen to.
This live album showcases his true talent. There are a few new songs on this album and a few songs from Simply Nothing are omitted although all the really good ones are here (Take My Hand, Gravity, etc.) If you like "Simply Nothing", you'll want to get this album to hear him outside of the studio setting. He is truly a unique new talent.

The beauty about Shawn's unique style of music is that when it's on a live recording there is very little change musically (i.e. it's not like a rock concert when you can fire up the crowd). For me there's something special about listening to someone live, especially when they are playing in their home city, especially when they are from Seattle! It's almost spiritual.
With this album you almost feel like you are there with Shawn and some of his close friends, the little nuances between tracks make you feel like you have got to know him more as a person. Shawn's rendition of "Somewhere over the rainbow is a delight to hear, the only disappointing thing is that he doesn't explain why he does this cover as when I saw him live at Parachute (a festival in New Zealand) he explained how he felt like it was a song about heaven. All the goodies from "Simply Nothing" are there and well received by the audience. The tracks from his new album hint at something a little different from the first one, but ultimately definitely still Shawn. Undoubtedly the highlight of this album is Shawn's testimony. It's easy to assume that someone filled with such a God spirit always grew up as such. His testimony was encouraging and an inspiration. I wouldn't hesitate buying this album.

Love it Live,

Ok this was the first cd I heard by him. This rocked me hard. LIke blue me away like standing outside in gail force winds. I could feel the emotions of his songs. He layed it all out and it was beautiful.
I got to see him live in a really small venue about 30 people total, less than that it you didn't count friends and family of the band. He had the same energy for the few of us. I would have to say he is like a christian damien rice, not so much the sound of his voice but the feel. The melloncholy acoustic. But that is a good thing. Since getting this album, I have gotten the rest. "Open me" is one of my fave, "take my hand" is also great.

This is just a superb, understated effort. I had first heard "Gravity" listening to a Christian radio station over the Internet and was immediately drawn to his style and lyrics.
Here's a guy who is soft-spoken and humble before God, and truly grateful for his salvation, given his background, which you can learn about on the CD and online. His thirst and hunger for the Lord--a true, unaffected faith--comes through in every song. If his voice doesn't drive right through you--it certainly does for me--the music and lyrics will. I am more fond of unadulterated acoustic music rather than polished studio mixes. This CD has it. Make no mistake though--the sound and music quality is excellent with two voices (Shawn and a female vocalist) and a cellist who adds just the right touching quality to the music. It may sound strange but when I started listening to this CD it really starting deeply ministering to me. As a man I almost hate to admit it, but I had a hard time not crying on a lot of these songs. I started seeing how deeply and passionately someone not just wants but deep in our souls needs to know and love their Creator--it's simple and basic and fundamental to a Christian's walk, but we often miss it in the hum and buzz of our daily lives. That said--all in all this is an excellent, warm, and beautiful effort from a superb musician I think we'll be hearing a lot from in the coming years.

Live In Seattle is an energetic and enjoyable live album by Shawn McDonald. It is my first Shawn McDonald CD and I am not disappointed. His sound is very good and his lyrics are superb. He does a great job of sharing the message of Jesus in song.
The lyrics talk about needing God, surrendering to God, and praise. He is not afraid to mention the name of Jesus. His songs are both meaningful and catchy. I particularly like 'Gravity'. He also does a remake of Judy Garland's 'Over The Rainbow'. Shawn is an up and coming artist who will both inspire and entertain. I recommend it.

Too much live music,

Based on the sample music from Amazon of this CD, one would think it is recorded in a studio. But it's a live performance and I didn't know this. I would have bought his other CD had I known this.
