Selena's Grammy-winning Live album is a sizzling reminder of her electric stage charisma and blossoming talent as a performer. The album's nine live tracks--recorded in February 1993 at the Coliseo Memorial in Selena's hometown of Corpus Christi--showcase the late singer's uncanny ability to infuse a love song with both girlish innocence and a heated sexuality. Particularly effective are extended versions of "Como La Flor," "Baila Esta Cumbia," and "La Carcacha." You can almost feel the heat seeping through your speakers. The album also includes three new studio tracks--"No Debes Jugar," "La Llamada," and the Emilio duet "Tu Robaste Mi Corazon"--which foreshadow Amor Prohibido, Selena's final Spanish-language album. --Joey Guerra

A live album usually sounds distorted and weak compared to a musician's identical studio recordings. Not in this case. Selena was not just a singer. She was a Performer. You know that when you hear the audience screaming her name and the announcer introducing the one and only Selena. Turn up the volume, boost the bass just a touch and prepare to join a live performance right in your living room. Selena is awesome on stage, where she comes alive and works the crowd into a frenzy. If you like her music or want to feel what it would have been like to be at one of her concerts, buy this album. You will not be disappointed. And don't be surprised if one day you take it along in your car and drive to work or play jamming to "La Carcacha".

This Grammy winner remastered cd is one of the best cds done by one of latin's greatest singer Selena Quintanilla Perez. The music is espectacular , her voice is phenomenal and her love for the fans is so beatifull that by just listening to this recording you can feel her love as well.
The spoken liner notes by family and band members are so touching and beautifull giving the fans a bit of history about each song on the cd.
This cd is a must have for every Selena and Los Dinos fans outthere, and even if you are just getting to know Selena now I recommend 100% I guarantee you that it will be worth it.

Selena is the the true performer of the people. Her songs are fun and about everyday life. People from all ethnic backgrounds can appreciate her music. I thought all the song were great. I listen to them all the time. Even if you don't know what she's saying you can feel her music by the beat and the rythm. Selena was a great loss to latino music and EMI records. Buy this CD to keep the spirit of Selena alive.

Great. Selena must have been great at her concerts. (The Selena movie gives the viewer a real sense of that.) This is a good CD. I wish that I would have seen her perform, but she was performing in Texas, and I was in other states. Then before any true fan could blink, it was all over. She was a true talent, with a great personality, and a beautiful heart. I like the energy that this type of music sends forth and the rhythms and Selena's singing.

Recording your live album in your hometown (in this case, Corpus Christi) is a cheat sheet for success, and this happens to not be an exception. Selena's searing vocals are showcased on this record, as well as one over-enthusiastic female fan you may hear scream from time to time. It isn't hard to see why this album won a Grammy back in 1993, or why it continues to be a fan favorite. Along with all of it's live tracks, it contains three bonus tracks. The bouncy "No Debes Jugar" is like a "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom"-lite, and it just as amazingly performed and amazingly catchy. "Robaste Mi Corazon" Is a heartfelt ballad that finally matches Selena up with some one of nearly equal vocal talent ("Buenos Amigos" was just plain embarassing in that respect...Selena overpowered her male counterpart so blatanly), and "La llamada" is just as jaunty and firey. The live tracks are expertly performed, and the crowd is just as enthusiastic as Selena, adding extra excitement. The only place where this disk falls short is the songs Pete Astudillo is allowed to sing. Not that he lacks any talent, it's just Selena's album for god's sake. Not only that, but on "Ven Conmigo" Selena allows the crowd to sing the beautiful chorus. While this isn't totally dissapointing, it would be more interesting to hear the superstar sing it herself. Over-all, this album is a must-have. But if you want the supreme live album, I suggest the 2001 release of "Live: the last concert."

Back in the 1990s, I was a huge fan of Selena Quintanilla and I had a copy of this album. Over the years, the CD became damaged and I recently purchased myself a new copy. I really enjoy all of the songs, especially the very first track and La llamada. I definitely recommend this album to any Selena fan.

I remember listening to this CD endlessly back during the summer of 1995 shortly after Selena's tragic death. I have listened to Selena's studio albums many times and couldn't believe how good this live recording was. Selena and her band exhibit a lot of energy throughout this record. After listening to a lot of Tejano since, I have to say that this effort by Selena and company is still my all time favorite in the tejano genre. Listening to _¿Qué Creías?_ and _Si la Quieres_ brings tears to my eyes because this great and talented lady's life was cut so short. I'm not surprised that this CD won a Grammy. Tejano music, for me, doesn't get any better than this. Highly recommended.

When purchasing this album there are a couple of things to consider. Firstly, this is not her best live album to date. The Posthumous "Selena Live: The Last Concert" released in the early 2000's is easily much better as it showcases Selena's more mature performing talent AND the entirety of the concert. "Selena Live" offers only about 8 live songs (including one that doesn't even feature her) that while showing Selena's live vocal talent, don't offer a full view or range of it.

HOWEVER, the recorded tracks at the end of the album are all gems. "La Llamada" and "No Debes Jugar" went on to become hit songs and "Tu Robaste Me Corazon" is a beautiful duet. I DO reccommend this album for all Selena fans, but especially collectors. Selena won a Grammy for this album and it's not hard to see why. My removal of a star was simply because I felt as though more live material could have been presented.
