5.0 out of 5 stars great artist, July 2, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Live at Sob's New York City (Audio CD)
I saw Stephens as part of Kanye West's backup -- he was amazing (completely outshining Kanye) and I wondered who he was for days because I couldnt hear when he was introduced. I just saw him on MTV promoting his new album and went right online to buy this one. He is an amazing piano player and singer and I wish him all the best in his solo career. This album is a good showcase of his ability but I cant wait until his new one under the name John Legend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Living Legend, December 15, 2004
This review is from: Live at Sob's New York City (Audio CD)
If you are ready for some genuine GOOD MUSIC, then you HAVE to get this album by John Stephens (pka John Legend). This album is more funky than Solo Sessions. My favorite tracks are "Sun Comes Up," (a John Stephens Classic) "Alright," (Will be on "Get Lifted"), "Lifted," (of course) "Soul Joint," and "Burning Down the House." If your not looking to get funky, you should definitely get a copy of "Solo Sessions: Live at the Knitting Factory," available on his website. "Live at SOB's" is a bit hard to find, but you can download it on DCN Network. I was able to buy it from his website a while ago. John Stephen's Vocal talents are virtually unmatched and his music will not go unnoticed for long. He is already selling out shows all over the country. This album is SURE to become a collectors item. Get on the boat!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Survivor, September 6, 2004

This review is from: Live at Sob's New York City (Audio CD)
John Legend is a survivor from a generation of music that is slowly evolving to it's death. He is very talented the very essence of soul and funk. His sultry voice will leave a remarkable impression. He is often pen the male version of Alicia Keys but his talent speaks for him. Not only can he sing but he is a wonderful pianist. Following in the footsteps of Donnie Hathaway and Stevie Wonder but yet adding his own spend. We have John Legend a survivor.
