5.0 out of 5 stars A real page turner January 6, 2013
By Azeryk
Format:Kindle Edition
I've read nearly everything Kelli Owen has released so far and have been looking forward to reading Live Specimens for a while now - especially after she said that it should be gorier than he normal works.

The story takes place in a small town preparing for an upcoming blizzard; when people start dying from vicious animal attacks - although these are not normal animals - these are genetically altered killing machines - smarter, faster and deadlier. Who, if any, will survive the blizzard and the attacks.

The character in the book are good and the story is fast paced from the beginning with plenty of action and death all of the way through which made this a real page turner for me. Over the years I've read a fair few 'monster/animal on a rampage' books but this has to be one of my favourites as I really enjoyed the uniqueness of the animals.

Overall if your a fan of the horror genre and would like to read something with plenty of mayhem and action then you will enjoy this. 4.5/5

The novel was received in exchange for an honest review

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best creature stories I''ve read in ages July 10, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
One of the best creature stories I''ve read in ages. Great story, characters you can care about and non-stop action. I saw some comments in other reviews about displeasure with the ending. I thought this was the perfect ending for a creature story. If you're a fan of creature movies and books, this is how it should end. Can't wait to read more of Kelli's books.

4.0 out of 5 stars genetically enginered mayhem! January 4, 2014

I great idea and really well written, with attention to detail. Except the size of the monsters in some chapters was not specified and made it a tiny bit confusing at times. But apart from that, it was a great read!

Who do you think will get it next ? Who do you wish would get it next ? Yep one of those. Don't get me wrong its a good story, and it falls in the page turner catagory, but I've read as good or better for less money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cool Creatures July 9, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book kept my attention like a 'B' horror movie. Kind of like the movie, Halloween, in the aspect that it might be a sleeper that comes on strong later.
Great creatures. The characters were trying to find their third dimension but couldn't get there for some reason.
All in all, I enjoyed it.

More About the Author

Kelli Owen was born in Superior, WI (1969-) and currently lives in Destination, PA. She has been writing for as long as she can remember. Her first novel, SIX DAYS, was met with nothing but praise. Her shorter fiction tends to lean toward horror, her longer works toward thriller, but neither genre was expecting this tomboy to write quite like she does. Before publishing her own works she edited for many of the authors in her field, reviewed the others, and was asked to be on countless panels regarding the craft and genres, where she honed her skills before setting any of her own work loose on the unsuspecting public.

From the author:
Why do I write? Because I had amazing teachers, especially Mrs. Honz and Mr. Leighty, who told my mom it was okay that I was reading horrible things--because I was READING--and encouraged my writing with red pens and raised eyebrows over the top of their glasses.

Why do I publish? Because somewhere along the way I found out it was okay to make things up--to lie to all of you lovely people. I get to create my own places and people, and convince you they are real for a couple hundred pages... And that's pretty amazing.

Benjamin Franklin said, "Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing." I'm leaning towards the first choice. Care to read along?

Stop by any of them and say hi...
