5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome
Even if this CD doesn't have the best setlist they could have put together it does accomplish the most important thing it needed to do: capture the feeling of live Sublime. From the openning explosion of Don't Push to the melodic ending of Ruca and everything in between this album captures the atmosphere and feeling of being at a Sublime concert. For anyone who...

3.0 out of 5 stars I love Sublime too, but let's not go overboard here..
Let me just say that I love Sublime more than just about anyone I know. They've been one of my favorite bands since i was in Jr. High and as I've grown up, their music touches me more and more. But seriously, "Stand By Your Van" is NOT as masterpiece. Yes, it does give a representation of Sublime in their raw, party band form, but the quality of the record doesn't not...

For anyone who started liking Sublime when they heard the self-titled album and obviously never got a chance to see Sublime live this album will keep you hooked for life. Also if all you have is the self-titled and are looking for more, earlier music you can't go wrong with this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sublime........................................, June 13, 2005
This review is from: Live: Stand By Your Van (Audio CD)
Ok. I'm a big Sublime fan. I have All their cd's but the acoustic one, but anyway, that's not the point. I'm a sucker for live records, and this one is one of thier best. There are a lot of bootleg live albums on the net, and they have their moments, but the sound quality is hard to handle cuz alot of them suck. This is a very good cd. It shows sublime in their true form: "three guys and a dalmation playing reggae and punk songs at parties for beer" to quote, incorrectly, but close enough, the liner notes of this cd. If you are a Sublime fan, get it. Otherwise get 40 oz. To Freedom and s/t. This is a good mix of songs from 40 oz. and Robbin' the Hood. Speaking of which, it does Robbin the Hood justice because they do actual full band versions of the home-produced 4-track songs that were usually just Brad by himself. Highlights include "New Thrash", "Don't Push", "Let's Go Get Stoned", "Greatest Hit's", "Date Rape", "STP", "Pool Shark" (which is a mix of the original and acoustic versions), and an early version of "Caress Me Down". Good Luck.

5.0 out of 5 stars amazing....simply amazing, March 10, 2005
This review is from: Live: Stand By Your Van (Audio CD)
i remember the 1st time i heard sublime...i was 10 and heard wrong way and loved it on MTV......but then i didnt listen to them again until my friend gave me the self titled CD for my birthday and i now have a bunch of their CD's and stuff......but this review is for Stand By Your Van....got this for christmas and it hasnt left my CD player in my car....its amazing.. my favorite songs are date rape (classic) and dont push...if you liked 40 oz. to freedom and the self titled its really good plus its got some songs from robbin the hood.......shows the emotion and just amazing music that Bradley, Bud, and Eric had created until May 1996, when Bradley died due to a drug overdose....now some people say o well he deserved to die for being a herion user....well bradley was different he was a family man who had gotten married just a few short weeks b4 that fateful day.....the sad thing was that he worked hard 2 get clean after being sent home from self titled CD recordings due to drug use......it was just that one time relapse that did him in and killed the leader of my favorite band of all time.......also i love the song pool shark...listen to the lyrics....he knew he was gonna lose the war...but now at the very least Bradley is out of the hell his drug use created and we fans are left with the music created by a musical god......

RIP Bradley James Nowell 1968-1996 May your soul be saved now and forever.......

5.0 out of 5 stars Best live album I've ever heard, November 18, 2000
This review is from: Live: Stand By Your Van (Audio CD)
As a huge Sublime fan, maybe I'm jaded...but I love this album. Up until two days ago, I had every Sublime album except this, but I own this and love it now. It has a good set list, showing off some of the best tracks from 40 Oz. To Freedom and Robbin' The Hood. And for all the people who just liked them for the self-titled and complained about its lack of presence on this album? They don't get it. This shows what a Sublime show was...but only through song. One thing I wish they coulda done with this album is had more of just Brad talking between songs. This album deals strictly with the musi (which, in itself is amazing), but part of the live experience was feeling like you were part of the whole moment, and I'm sure Brad addressing the crowd was part of that. Oh well. The live album still gets the job done. If you like Sublime (or live music in general) go get this now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sublime's best, February 7, 2000
This review is from: Live: Stand By Your Van (Audio CD)
This is it, the way Sublime was meant to be heard. Every track is full of the energy that made sublime so popular. Most of the tracks come from 40oz. (which is their best studio album) but some come from robbin' the Hodd and there is one track (caress me down) from the multiplatinum "Sublime" album. Buy THis Album. It rocks.

I had forgotten about this album and just found it again, looking around on Amazon. Great, amazing, trashy bar room rock and roll. It takes some warming up to but the insane drumming and Brad Nowell's half drunk sleepy-raging energy is by far Sublime at their best. I think I listened to this album for 3 months or so straight when I first got it. Buy it!!! NOW.

5.0 out of 5 stars A sublime masterpiece, June 20, 2004
This review is from: Live: Stand By Your Van (Audio CD)
For most of my life, i have been interested it badmusic until i came along sublime. sublime turned be on to the greatful dead(scarley begonias), the maytals(5446), peter tosh(steppen razor) and many more of the greats. I guarentee that anyone will like this album, it is some of sublimes best work, my favorite song on this album is "all you need" and "djs" (very different from 40 oz version). if you enjoy this, i recomend picking up "40 oz to freedom" and "robbin the hood."

This is the most incredable c.d. i've ever heard, from any band, EVER. It truly captures the sound of SUBLIME. This c.d. seriously pours out good vibes. It totaly hits you, makes you wanna sing. If you even so much as remotely enjoy the SUBLIME sound, you must buy this c.d. I hope that skunk can produce more SUBLIME c.d.'s like this one. R.I.P. Brad

This was the CD that introduced me to sublime. It is my favorite album I own. Bradley sounds amazing on this. My favorites are Dont Push,Right Back,Lets Go Get Stoned,,Badfish,DJS,Work That We Do. I don't dislike any of the songs on here. Even though I normally listen to hip hop I think this easily beats any rap albums and I think its great that Sublime opened our eyes to the fact that there are white people in the Hood.
