Editorial Reviews

Digitally remastered two-fer containing a pair of albums from the British Boogie/Rock 'n' Roll band. Live (1977) followed the two platinum studio albums Fool For The City and Night Shift, and went double platinum, selling two million copies. It features extended work-outs of the band's best-known songs, culminating in 8« minutes of 'Slow Ride'. Stone Blue (1978) went gold in the US, and features the hit title track, along with covers of two songs that inspired the band originally, Robert Johnson's 'Sweet Home Chicago' and Elmore James' 'It Hurts Me Too'. Edsel.

First off, I must agree with a fellow reviewer that this particular release DOES sound suspiciously like the original 1990 CD versions(not like the TRULY remastered Castle Records 2CD sets which are getting quite rare & expensive). So if you are buying this disc ONLY to replace your OLD CD versions of "Stone Blue" & "Live" this is NOT the release for you. Shell out the extra bucks for the Castle Records Remastered 2CD versions instead. HOWEVER, if you are purchasing this release because you simply want to own two of the greatest releases in the FOGHAT catalog, then this reasonably priced set is for you! The pairing of 1977's "Foghat LIVE" with 1978's brilliant and often overlooked "Stone Blue" LP makes for nearly 80 minutes of the most hard-hitting, quality blues rock ever recorded!

FOGHAT's 1977 "LIVE" is simply legendary & remains one of the greatest live albums of all-time. Unlike so many other groups of the 70s who needed 2LPs to demonstrate their live prowess, FOGHAT(like PAT TRAVERS BAND-"Live-Go For What You Know" '79 masterpiece)simply laid down a single LP with six songs of blazing FOGHAT perfection! "LIVE" is so great because it contains three of FOGHAT's biggest hits "Fool For The City", "I Just Wanna Make Love To You", and the definitive version of "Slow Ride" played at a MUCH higher intensity level than the studio versions, alongside three of FOGHAT's greatest non-single tunes: the classic "Home In My Hand", the hard blues brilliance of "Road Fever", and the over the top, energized to the max, and highlight of the album "Honey Hush". "LIVE" is truly a party packed into one album. From start to finish it never lets up and builds to a raging climax with "Honey Hush" and an extended blaze-out finale version of "Slow Ride".

Foghat! I bought this version as I wanted Stone Blue but the Stone Blue CD is only available as a very expensive import. For a fraction of the price I got the album I wanted plus their live album.

In the item description it stated that these cd's are remastered. They sound exactly like the original 'remastered' cd's put out by Rhino way back around 1990. Even the cd's back then did not sound 'remastered' compared to regular cd's. These 'Foghat' discs from Edsel seems to be just copied from the original 'Rhino' discs which is very disappointing. With the equipment available today and sound quality that this and collection could sound like, it is a rip-off if you are like me and already own these cd's. If you do not own these, the price is good for both cd's on one disc until a truly remastered set comes out. I have also found sound quality disappointing on other Edsel discs I have purchased. Booklets are great reading though.

You can't go wrong with these 2 albums "Live" and "Stone Blue". The sound is great, excellent job by Edsel, nice text also. On "Live", you get the classic rave-ups of, "Honey Hush", "Slow Ride", better than the studio performance, ""Road Fever", "Fool For The City" and "I Just Want To Make Love To You". On "Stone Blue", their classic 1978 album, you get the rip roaring title track that hit #33 in '78, great slide guitar by Rod Price! Robert Johnson's "Sweet Home Chicago", they make it their own. "Easy Money", great bass by Craig MacGregor. Lonesome Dave puts it all on the line with "Midnight Madness", excellent ballad in. "It Hurts Me Too", Dave and Rod's great guitar rocker "High On Love", the Young brothers classic "Chevrolet", and another Dave and Rod tune in the pretty "Stay With Me". "Stone Blue", was a classic album growing up in the 70's! The lyrics of all the songs are in here as well.
