Hot Tuna - 'Steady As She Goes'

Biography

From their days playing together as teenagers to their current acoustic and electric blues, probably no one has more consistently led American music for the last 50 years than Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady, the founders and continuing core members of the iconic blues-roots band Hot Tuna.

Now members of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the pair began playing together while growing up in the Washington… Read more in Amazon's Hot Tuna Store

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice, January 27, 2002

This is, indeed, a fine, mostly acoustic release by Hot Tuna. Both "Sweetwater" CDs helped kick off a bit of a Tuna revival upon their release nearly ten years ago. They've stood up well over time. But I'd be a bit suspicious of the review before this one (from Brooklyn, home of Relix Records, no less. Coincidence? I think not). Bob Weir appears on only one cut (Schoolgirl), not several, and there IS electric music on this disc (the live Parchman Farm and Endless Sleep, a studio cut). It's a nice, intimate recording that Tuna fans will appreciate.

5.0 out of 5 stars I WAS AT THESE SHOWS IN JANUARY 1992, July 21, 2003

This review is from: Live At Sweetwater Two (Audio CD)
All three, and I must say, these were three incredible Tuna shows. I am a Tuna fanatic from Brooklyn, N.Y., where we grow 'em fanatical. I think Aaron Greenglass's reviews for all these Tuna cds are a bit deceptive in some areas and I'd point out that Parchman Farm and the other "electric" song were merely Jorma playing pedal steel with a fuzz tone while Mike played acoustic guitar and Jack-as nearly always when playing an "acoustic" show-played electric bass. Pete Sears sat in for many of the songs each night and became-for a time-Hot Tuna's keyboard player. All songs all three nights were not electric in the traditional sense, meaning there was no drummer. Jack's played an electric bass on virtually EVERY song-"acoustic" or otherwise-for all the 250+ Hot Tuna shows I've seen over the years. The second night Bob Weir came out for several songs, among them Maggie's Farm. Maria Muldaur also came out that night for several songs. If nothing else, this cd is a MUST HAVE for any Tuna fan simply because it was pretty historic three-night run. After all, Sweetwater closed not long after these shows. But the music itself is why you WANT this cd-and ALL Hot Tuna/Jorma/Jefferson Airplane cds.

5.0 out of 5 stars HOT TUNA at SWEETWATER amazes!, October 26, 2000
By
This review is from: Live At Sweetwater Two (Audio CD)
Both Jorma and Jack accompanied by no other than, BOB WEIR (Grateful Dead Fame)on some of the tracks! Tuna sounds great on this second volume of songs recorded while on tour in the early to mid 90's. The set list reads like a greatest hits package. Although there is no ELECTRIC music provided on this disc, the acoustic performances are simply stellar! This is an amazing recording!
