Format: Audio CD
I have a copy of Free Factory issue, catalog no. 068. Not sure which version the Amazon listing refers to (my copy was considerably less expensive). One disc with Naima, Crescent and Leo played in the later style. Sound quality is good, apparently a radio broadcast from WRTI (an announcer breaks in after the first Coltrane solo). Drums and bass form a low rumble in the background, but the horns and piano are clear. The performances are 'free' making it tough to discern the melodies the song titles suggest until JC references them. While Coltrane's playing seems random at times, his notes are clear with the squeaking and honking limited to just a few points. All in all a good experience and one I could see listening to again when I need to set my mind loose for awhile.
4 stars for the historic value and unexpetedly good sound quality.
