Having met in 1971 when they were 11, Danny and Luke have been playing in bands together since they were 15, so they knew exactly what they were going for… Read more in Amazon's Thunder Store

5.0 out of 5 stars At Their Best, October 28, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Live (Audio CD)
One of the best British rock bands of the 1990s, Thunder were always at their best in front of an audience. The fans were fanatical and the band truly did appreciate it. Having seen the band on the "Behind Closed Doors" tour, I am not surprised that this album was released.

Covering the best of the material from the first four albums, the album begins with the aptly named "Welcome To The Party". Apt because that was what a Thunder show was, a party. Vocalist Danny Bowes is straight into the mood, bringing the audience into the show almost from the word go as the band rattle through their impressive repertoire, including renditions of "Gimme Some Lovin'" and "Dance To The Music".

It is extremely hard to point out highlights on an album that seems to peak two seconds in and never lets up. The pace changes frequently - Thunder were as well known for their slow songs as they were the out-and-out rockers - and in terms of atmosphere this could easily rank alongside Thin Lizzy's "Live And Dangerous", Lynyrd Skynyrd's "One More From The Road" and even the all-time classic "Made In Japan".

Rock has never been truly "fashionable", but it is always nice to see bands who are prepared to fly in the face of fashion and do what they are passionate about - playing good music and giving an audience a good time. America certainly missed out on this band.

But if your passion is good, old-fashioned, straight-ahead rock and roll music, then buy this album and check it out.

Stand out tracks: "Low Life In High Places", "Like A Satelite", "Moth To The Flame"....and on and on.

Listen, enjoy and think about what might have been......

5.0 out of 5 stars The REAL greatest hits album!, February 17, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Live (Audio CD)
While "Their Finest Hour" is a great collection of some of their best tunes...this is the Real one! An amazing live album. It trully captures the brilliance of all the band members. It is worth the price alone for the acoustic live version of "Like a Satellite". This version put the original to shame (which I once thought would be impossible!) It also previews the new song "The Only One"--A classic song already! This is one of the best LIVE albums of all time. The sound quality is great and it has a lot of good solo and improv bits. One killer album by a great band! A must have. Cheers!
