5.0 out of 5 stars Resurrected at last!!!
I can't believe this is a 25 year old live analog recording!! Every song is terrific, the European audience is quiet and attentive, and these guys have a fusion sound to transcend any rock-jazz recording I've ever heard. Makes me want to get every George Clinton or Stanley Clarke recording I can get my hands on and lock myself in for a day.

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS ALBUM IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES!!!!!!!, March 4, 2001

I remember hearing this album at my friend's house a few years ago and just being blown away. I have searched every used vinyl store since looking for it to no avail. Finally it's been re-released on CD and I can die a happy man. "Hip Pockets" and "Almustafa the Beloved" rival any jazz-funk-rock fusion songs ever. Cobham's dumming is incredibly intense, Duke's keyboard sounds are revolutionary, Scofield is funky, and Al Johnson is one of the tighest bassists ever. There is some really out stuff on this album that not everyone will like but there are also a few really amazing gems on it. I wish they'd release more of the tapes from this concert! If you buy this album you will not be dissapointed

5.0 out of 5 stars Duke And Cobham Are ALIVE!!!, August 29, 2003
We're all well aware of Billy Cobham's talents but this serves at presenting George Duke in his ecclectic pre-Reach For It" stage-the only CD evidance taht I know of."Hip Pockets" and
the John Scofield guitar-whipped "Ivory Towers" make a powerful
starter while the avante-garde synthesizer racket on Duke's own
"Frankstein Goes To The Disco puts the artists current preoccuptaion with bland commercial pop to shame! Not to be ignored is the Sun-Ra-sih rap of "Space Lady"-it's Billy Cobham all over but a whole other side of George Duke, one that we don't see too often these days.A "new colossus" as it were!

I had this album on plastic but due to a miss-hap, I've spent the past 15+ years hit'n every record store /garage sale looking for this dyn-no-mite ! record. If you want to know what fusion is about, you must get this disk. Cobham kicks a whole in your speakers and registers a 4.5 on the earth quake meter! Geroge Duke grew another arm with 2 hands on it! Check it out, if fusion / rock / funk, is your thang! This was the penicle of fusion and funk. The cats studied !

5.0 out of 5 stars a mammoth recording, February 16, 2006

a perfect live analog recording here...i got a copy of the atlantic vinyl release from my uncle's impeccable 70's funk/soul collection. i lit up when i saw george duke's mug on the front, and was thrilled to see perfect vinyl...i was blown away by the quality of the music, and the quality of the recording itself. this one opens up with a giant version of hip pockets. duke, cobham, and scofield stand and deliver a nice snapshot of mid 70's power fusion. you can hear exactly why mid 70's zappa was so perfect when you hear george duke play with other musicians. his contribution was immense. this recording just comes together well. i'd grab up a copy immediately if i hadn't transferred the recording from vinyl already.

bottom line: oozy, funky, rhythmic, perfect, fun, complex, and extraordinary fusion from some extremely talented musicians at the peak of their pioneering. buy it now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic band, stellar live album., December 28, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Live on Tour in Europe (Audio CD)
This record is probably the only documentation of this awesome act, which included John Scofield on guitar and Alphonso Johnson on bass--both at the top of their craft. This is true fusion: heavy on the funk and rock, but chock fulla killer jazz changes and full-shred soloing. As usual with a Cobham offering, there are moments of self-indulgence (Frankenstein Goes to the Disco) and there are plenty of space noises. But this truly represents the finest era of jazz/rock fusion--before the genre was nearly destroyed by "smooth jazz."

5.0 out of 5 stars A True Gem!, June 26, 2009

This album contains four super-bad players at their creative and technical primes. If you are a fan of any of these guys other works, you'll certainly love this. (In case you don't know, it's John Scofield on guitar and Alphonso Johnson on bass.)

It took one listen to come up with a five star rating for this album. It grooves enough to rock the party and is sophisticated enough to sit down and analyze. Like it suggests on the liner notes, what a shame that this is the only album these four did together!

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything you want in a jazz fusion album, January 18, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Live on Tour in Europe (Audio CD)
This is an example of several musical masters utilizing their genius through sound. This cd truly has magnificent range and a masterful mix of collaborative jazz fusion. Billy C puts together some of the most amazing solos and rhythms one could imagine. Duke and Johnson - need I say more? This is a definite winner!
