Not really for the layperson,

This Deftones live release is your best chance to hear some of band's best songs live, without actually seeing them in concert. I'm not too sure why the Deftones included the studio track "My Own Summer (Shove It)" on this CD; maybe to help promote it. All these songs, except for "Lotion" (which is on Around The Fur), are featured on their widely held debut Adrenaline. All the live versions recorded here are awesome and portray the sound of the Deftones very well. This is a definite must-have for any Deftones fanatic, but to the amateur fan there's not much to go on. I don't think I'm alone when I say that only six songs doesn't cut it. I could've used a few more; perhaps a couple more from Around The Fur to balance the weight a bit. Nevertheless, one must take the bad with good. The best live song hear is probably "Bored". Not just for the music, but because Chino stops in the middle and helps a kid find his shoe. The lone ATF song is certainly one of the best. It's also good to hear "Fireal / Swords" live as it was somewhat bizarre on Adrenaline. "Root", "Nosebleed" and "Lifter" are all amazing live tracks, and they round off the CD very nicely. If you are a huge Deftones fan and already own all their studio records then this is a certain necessity for your collection. But if you are a coming-of-age Deftones fan, I recommend you start with either Adrenaline or Around The Fur before this live album. You'll get more for your money with a couple more songs.

Deftones are probably one of the best and most energetic live bands out there, it's only natural that they put out a live compilation. This CD does not disappoint, unlike some reviewers claim. It is actually REALLY good. Most of the songs on here are from 'Adrenaline' except the studio version of "My Own Summer" and the live version of "Lotion," which is one of my favorite Deftones songs. Highlights of this CD include the end of 'Bored' where a kid in the audience loses his shoe and Chino stops to help him find it. "Root" and "Lifter" are the best performed on here, and don't lose their original energy. If you enjoyed all the studio albums put out by the Deftones, buy this. It took me a while to get it, cuz I wasn't really sure, but I'm glad I did.

Just as good as a real concert,

I saw the Deftones on the Back to School tour, and while they put on a great live show, I was a bit disappointed because they only played two songs from Adrenaline. I got this CD hoping to hear live versions of some of my favorite Adrenaline songs, and must say this does not disappoint. Nosebleed sounds even more aggressive and fast than it did in the studio, while Chino puts more effort into Lifter. On Adrenaline, Fireal sounded a bit spooky, but this version scares my pants off. This album is not one to be missed, and is even more important as the Deftones don't play most of these songs live anymore.

Great Live Album,

This is probably the best live album I've ever heard. It shows that the Deftones really care about there fans. What I mean by that is that they really interact with their fans during their shows. This is really expressed when Chino stops in the middle of Bored to help a kid find his shoe that he lost and then he lets the kid do a stage dive. This is just another great album to add to my always growing Deftones collection and every album is well worth the money because the Deftones are the best. You must buy this live album now!!!

Even though the thrashing voice of Chino and the drilling sounds of Abe and his drums are louder than the guitar and bass, this album delivers that deftones experience in the comfort of your own home. Also the track "bored" is the best live version I have heard. Overall this album is a must buy for all deftones fans.

Mostly For Hardcore Fans of The Deftones,
By Ian Scottish (New York) - See all my reviews

If I were to have done this review based on my own liking of this album exclusively, I would have given it 4 stars since I love everything The Deftones put out. However I'd rather make a fair perspective for those who are just casual Deftones fans and what they would think of the album. This CD is far from being up to the standards of a Deftones show these days. At the time of the recording, these guys were still working on their live performance skills and that's plain to see because If you see a Deftones show during or after the White Pony era, they are far superior to what you will hear out of this CD. That said, I still think they play pretty damn good on this Live EP, with a lot of emotion, and if you like Deftones more hardcore stuff you'll like this performance very much. However, it would have been much better if this were longer and consisted of some of the softer songs because it would have given the listener a more versatile view of Deftones rather than this strictly hardcore album with only one non-Adrenaline era song on it. If you're a diehard fan like myself, this is essential I'd say. If you're just a casual Deftones fan, buy White Pony first, then the two other studio albums, and if you really like those, get this.

DEFTONES ARE BETTER THAN EVERYONE,

Deftones rule. You cant get a better singer than Chino Moreno to do a soft voice then start screaming. I saw them live and that is the reason I bought this cd. If your a Deftones fan then this record is for you!!!!!!

This is a really decent live album and while yeah, it's short, the price is right. I think it's more for the fan/collector than really for someone who's looking for a live album by this band. Worth the money though.

Great but could've used more songs,

I'm a huge Deftones fan and love their live shows so when I found this at my local record store I quickly snatched it up. This album does carry the energy that the band brings but the album could've used some more material. The songs they did choose to be on this are all classics but I would've liked to of had a live version of My Own Summer rather than the studio cut. Maybe 3 more songs would've made this one of the best live albums out there. Perhaps live versions of 7 Words, One Weak, and Be Quiet and Drive would have made this a classic.
