It's about time! I first came across this band the year they released their debut, 1988 (Oh my god, that's 20 years ago, meaning their debut is now considered classic rock!). I have remained a fan ever since. They have put out very good stuff through the years, but never a live album - until now. The only concerns I have with this one is the following: a.) it's too short (that is, I would have liked to have heard more classics from "Demons Down", as well as newer stuff like "Rock Bottom"), and b.) the quality of the recording sounds "too good" (not live enough, an almost studio quality sound). Other than that, I think it is a good compilation for people who are now discovering this band. Now all we have to do is wait another 12 years or so for the "best of.." collection to finally be released...Until then...

If we are going to include the sheer amount of time since I began listening to the music of Mr. Gregg Giuffria (shortly before my 12th birthday when Angel's second album, "Helluva Band", 1976) was being completely ignored by all radio stations west of the Mississippi and most of the ones north of the Mason-Dixon line - These things happen when you're a little over a decade ahead of your time. Ask Pentagram, IF you can find any of them, that is) neither the man nor his music has lost a step in the last 43 years (although the YEAR the most talented person ever to make their way out of Gulfport Mississippi was born tends to fluctuate a bit [July 28, 1948 according to the Angel Earth Force, to July 28, 1955 according to Wikipedia - Nobody cares, Mr. G., As long as there's a party, we Leos WILL show up], but this gentleman IS a criminally underrated musical genius whom I've heard play everything from classical music to the crime against humanity that is Jazz [Angel's third album, the surprisingly good-despite-its-ears-deep-in-jazz-influences origins once again proves the virtuosity Mr. Giuffria displays for the world to hear if they'll just SD&STFU and LISTEN to the man and his co-musicians in this group. Simply doing the odds (number of songs he's ever written vs. Songs that blow - just say 1 out of enough songs so that each person in Mali had their own jam, one of which annoys someone (You want the actual math, call a physicist, the rest of us are crankin' the tunes).

Live music, like it or no, it loses just a hair of what makes it so "magical" in the first place.
