My buddy ROK attended the Grateful Dead's, third night at the Berkeley Community Theatre (8/24/72) Run. He had lot's of news to report, the Dead had played a KILLER Dark Star AND The New Riders were a Surprise at the Show and played a Set before The Dead hit the stage. Well, since I was unable to attend this big night because Tickets to these shows were very hard to come by, (Impossible, was a better word). I had missed out once again, but there was more...MORE???

ROK had a Flyer handed to him at the BCT Show, and it said: "Cum to the Creamery" a Field Trip for the Freaks in Veneta, Oregon will happen on Sunday Aug 27, Starring the Grateful Dead, The New Riders of the Purple Sage, the Merry Pranksters and Many surprises !!! It was Hand-Made, But, there it was, Sunday, two days from now, somewhere in Oregon, Man, this was HUGE !!!! I was all of 15 years old, there was no way my parents were gonna allow me to up and Go 500 miles North, to a "Gathering of the Tribes". ROK, was 17 and didn't give a %#*$ about what his parents were going to say or do to him. So, needless to say ROK, found a ride North and went on a 'Field Trip' (That Guy could write Quite a Book of all his adventures, I'm still waiting!).

This Show, that became: "THE SHOW" as soon as ROK got back home, (The following Tuesday). The stuff of Legends...The One not to be Missed.

Great Soundboard Tapes of BOTH The Grateful Deads & New Riders Sets have been traded since the Late 80's AND The Wonderful Bootleg Video called: "Sunshine Daydream" captures the whole Vibe Quite Nicely. But, this CD is the first "Official" release to see the Light of Day, and it's a "Must-Have" Purchase for any Fan of the NRPS. With 17 Cuts (3, are Stage Annoucements), this is the "Classic Line-Up" in all their Glory. John Dawson, David Nelson, Dave Tolbert, Buddy Cage & Spencer Dryden. Check out the Song selection and you will see the best stuff from the first three records: "Last Lonely Eagle", "I Don't Need No Doctor", "Lochinvar" and "Louisiana Lady". This CD has the same great sound of that tape I heard way back in the 80's (It's a Bettyboard). Do not Pass this one up, BUY IT... Or, find a Time Machine because I for one would sure like to go back to 1972 for this one.

GREAT DISK... FIVE STARS...FER REAL!!!

This album was everything that I hoped it would be and more. The band rocked and it sounded great!

I love The New Riders of the Purple Sage but wouldn't call myself a "Purple Head" or whatever term you use for an over the top fan. I've listened to them since the early 70s and have found them to be a really fun band to listen to. I love live music and this one turned out to be quite enjoyable. The band is tight and it all sounds good. Not much more to say. If you like NRPS and live music you might want to give it a try. I'm glad I did.

This is a great selection of songs from a great sometimes forgotten band. Its nice to hear some good ol' jam music with some great songs. They just don't make this kind of music anymore, a real shame.

5.0 out of 5 stars ¡¡¡¡UN PASOTE¡¡¡¡¡¡¡, December 6, 2007
This review is from: Live at Veneta, OR 8/27/1972 (Audio CD)
